They are not cheap for a good one.  My dealer got his at Parts Unlimited and cost was over $100.  I am lucky he lets me borrow his when I need it.

One of the chain maufacturers now have a nut-on type masterlink.
The nuts deform the ends ~ similar to the chain tool mushrooming the ends, then you break the nuts off.

That sounds pretty slick. I think I paid $90-100 for my chain tool.

I just bought the motion pro tool with my last chain.  Seemed to work just fine.

Too tell the truth i went to look for the master link and couldn't find one on the bike i bought it came with this master link-less chain i have never owned this type of chain before, is it a pain in the butt to break em? i was used to taking my chain off and soaking in kerosene too clean em up. Iam guessing busting down a chain everytime i want to clean it isn't really feasible anymore? i used to do this on a regular basis. (your thoughts)

It would be a big pain to cut and re-rivet a chain just for basic maintenance, you could always go to a clip type masterlink if you want to keep doing this.

i just bought the motion pro set as well and used it last night. pretty nice kit.  instructions suck but a little common sense helped out!!!

had the rivet type link. I would like to go to the clip though.

Well that solves that (thanks) i just think it's easier and one can do a much better job cleaning (off the bike) IMO.

Don't forget that even though you have a master link that uses a clip, most of the chains now days require you to press the side plate on, which can be a real PITA too.  Removing the chain for maintenance still isn't that easy.
