« on: July 08, 2008, 02:12:44 PM »
my 74 cb550 has a problem I can't figure out. I reset the valves, checked the timing, and rebalanced the carbs. it runs great until I get into high gear, then it starts popping and has no power. I have no clue as to what is going on any help would be greatly appreciated

And check carb to head boots for leaks by spraying a little silicone on to them when bike is running to see if there is a change in idle revs.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

what do you mean by "popping"? when you throttle, does it hesitate and sound like it's sucking in a lot of air? you're probably still runnig lean. if you're running stock main jets with those pods, you may need to take it up a size or two.

and what do you mean by your plugs have a lot of color to them? are they white, tan, or black? flat black or gloss black?

and what's so hard about shooting ducks? maybe you need to work on your spread, lol.
