I did more work last night on the new foot peg brackets, I modified the bolt pattern a bit to get them to bolt on properly.
Had to move the hole 0.080(2mm) off center, and enlarge the hole 0.090(2.?mm).
PERFECT fit..... Except I need to mill a bit off each bracket to get both bosses the bolts holes are in to touch the frame at the same time...

Thankfully I get to use the machines at work on my own time!!!
one side needs 0.115"(3mm) and the other 0.165" (4mm) removed...

These better be worth it... this is a LOT of work.... then I have to work on the linkages, a bushing for the brake side pedal, a shifter lever, linkages, and another bushing on that side as well.
Might have to rig up something for the brake light trigger as well.


As Far as my back hurting...
I can't see this bike being a long distance rider, but with 2 canyons to ride within 15 minutes of home.... I think I will put it to good use.
If nothing else it will be a conversation starter at the pump i'm sure.

I have mocked up the motor to fit the 4-1 i intend on running...
I already know what I want to do with that one.

Can't rember whose bike it is, but it has a ?suppertrapp muffler/spark supression end welded where the muffler would go.
Wicked looking.
And light!

Ignore the red handled awl holding the brake pedal, and the floorjack supporting the exhaust.....

Where are you located, soos?  Your geography sounds an awful lot like mine (5 twisty canyons within a few minutes of my house and 3k+ altitude changes).

Near the American Fork canyon, and Provo canyon in Utah.

Besides the un-paved roads that go FOREVER up in the montains, there is LOTS to check out that is paved.
And I can get 4000+ elevation change in 1/2 hour. And I live at 4200 feet already.
LOVE the switchbacks though!!!
In a car not so much.. with 2 kids, the wife and me driving.
On a bike    .......     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D


I'm on the other side of the mountain range that Hondaman gets to look at every day....
I miss Colorado.    :(
The mountains are on the wrong side out here..... to the east....

My '79 cb650 is running cb750 carbs, they are ... '73?'75? carbs. 7A is stamped on them. perfect(almost) fit.
I described basically what needed done to get the 750 carbs to fin in this http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=27434.0 thread. I do go to show quite a few differenced between the 750 and the 650 carbs.
I measured a LOT with calipers, so you can get a idea of how different.
They work better than the PD50A's IMO, AND give more clearance for removal of the carbs.

On my '81 cb650c i'm running '82cb650sc VB44D carbs....

With this '82cb650sc i'm doing now....... I'm not sure what I want to do for carbs.
If I go with the stocker '79 carbs as they are were running perfectly, but I would have to either rob another head for valves and guides(bad idea....), or buy new ones($$$ i don't have) as I had piston to valve clearance issues when a camchain went on me.


I could use the stockers for the '81cb650c.... but they are a mess.
Epoxy, buggered lines, and other little things there.... the CV head I have that could go with them is good(I hope).


i dunno... I guess i'll see what pops up.
May just sell something i will not be using to fund a set of either vb44C or VB44D carbs, or the parts for the non-CV head, and re-use the PD50A's.

Gah!  No wonder it sounded familiar, I'm up in Salt Lake.  Hooray, someone local who owns a 650, now I can pick your brain (and your pile of spare parts  ;D ).

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

So just an update on this drawn out build...

I have set a '85 gpz600 front end on it.
A bit of modifying needed, but nothing majoy.
Had to track down the correct bearings, and turn one shoulder down about 1/4 inch.

The front and rear tires are from the GPZ as well... both 16" rims.
Front has dual disks, and the rear single disk.
WAY lower seat than the '79 has.


I'm tempted to weld on shock mounts on the swingarm and using the stock shocks.
The other option for mounting is to weld on mounts for the single shock that is stock for that swingarm.

i'll have to add photos soon.
It's nothing more than mocked up at the moment, but i'm still thinking about what I can do with it still.

    that makes three of us here allog this mountian range. i'm near brigham city.   
1980 cb650c first bike i owned now the wife's ride.           1982 xv920j virago, bike i learned to ride on rescued it from a 13 year coma (sitting in the shed) now she runs beautifully and rides like a dream.

There are a TON of great mountain roads to wander around!



But anyways....

The monoshock is out for the moment.
I just cannot see putting off getting the motor and this bike going by adding this to my list of mods at the moment.
I still need to re-build the forks, re-assemble the motor and a millon other things.
mabey in a year or 2 i'll put the mono shock on.

Not too much to report.


Got some fork seals for the kawa front end, a fender brace, and (unfortunately) the wrong year front fender... But I think I can make it work.

The rear swingarm is coming along well.
Have removed the stock brake stay(? is that what it's called?) and mounted one on top of the swingarm for the disk brake.
Thought I had it in the right position.... but the rear disk hanger interferes with the shock now.
A slight mod of the brake hanger and it will clear... more welding, milling, and another hole to drill.
I am re-doing the swingarm bushings and a new pivot pin as well.
Got my hands on some really nice bearing material, and the pin is going to have stellite coated wear surfaces.
They should outlive me.

Probably WAY overkill, but since I have it completely torn down, why not??



Still deciding on color scheme.
I'm leaning towards a white, gray, or silver frame....

I have some 66 (!!!) mm pistons I am going to be utilizing as an overbore....  ;D ;D ;D
IF things work out........ Gotta measure, cut, measure, clay, probably cut more....

Just gotta find some appropriate sleeves to use.
The DOHC sleeves I have will not go that far out, and the SOHC 750 sleeves I have are bored already to 65mm, and I see no possibility of using them either....


I guess it was a good thing I haven't bored the upper motor case out for new sleeves yet!

Well SLOWLY getting progress.

I've got my cb650 crank at the suzuki dealership getting shell bearings for the rods fitted.
Yeah a Suzuki dealership... being as the rods are out of a GSXR1000....
:)

Spent the $$ I was going to use to get a set of cb900 barrels with on a set of KZ750 pistons....
The GPZ pistons are just too much I think.
Not to mention the rings I bought are for KZ750 pistons and not GPZ pistons....
The GPZ uses 1.0mm top ring, and 1.2mm middle ring, while the KZ uses 1.5mm top and second ring.

From what I have read the KZ pistons are (guessing here) about 1-2mm shorter.
I will post more after I get the KZ750 pistons and cam measure the differences.
