Leaky front caliper
« on: June 06, 2008, 04:18:36 PM »
I just replaced the front brake seal on y 77' 750. and every once in awhile there will be a small amount of fluid at the bottom of the caliper. Everything else is tight and dry.
Did I mess something when I replaced the seal?? ???

How did your piston look? Even one small touch of a pit might be enough over a bunch of lever pulls to give you a little spooge.

The only thing you can screw up really is if the seal is taper cut you can put it in backwards. Otherwise as you know it's pretty straight forward.

Brad speaks the truth. The taper is most slight.

I did not notice a taper. but if it was slight, I may have missed it.

Do the OEM seals have tapers??

News to me.  I though the taper was machined into the caliper body, the seal was square section, and installation direction error proof.

If it leaks, it is probably due to not getting the caliper groove clean enough, a nick in the seal, or the piston has sealing integrity issues.
