stuff it !
« on: July 07, 2008, 06:06:04 PM »
Anybody tried stuffing one of these: http://store.coker.com/prod/400-19-firestone-deluxe-champion-blackwall-tire.html onto a CB750 ?     got another project and I've been intrigued by some of the stuff in Japan for a while now.
Fork clearance would be very tight.....how much clearance would be considered safe ?   I know that a new rim is would be in order.  Stock fender would be useless as well.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Nobody ehh......

Ok, what would you guys recommend as a SAFE tire clearance between the forks ?   1/8" ?  1/4"   more ?

1/4 in both sides should be sufficient to account for fork flex but then if you have no brace, you may want more clearance. That tire is a 400 size, average cb front is 100. I do not see how it is going to fit anyways.

Oops, put the wrong link....size is 350 - 19.  Still a fatty, but it might actually fit.
Having to machine a fork brace, but still need to get the tire fitted first.

Wait, are we talking metric or inches here?  Because a 400 metric tire would be enormous.  Do they even make those?

I assumed that the 400 was 4.00 inches making it a 110 or so metric tire, which isn't that much bigger than a 100.

3.5 (or 100) would be stock, correct?

looks like the max width of that tire is around 4.25 inches. it may fit but it is really going to be pinched on the stock rim. there are some tires out there with that tread pattern that are a bit narrower. I would do that unless you plan to get a wider rim.

I going to use a wider rim. that's for sure.   I was assuming that those Firestone's were inches vs Metric.
Sent an e-mail to Firestone & Coker tire to find some actual measurements - just haven't heard back yet.
Guy I'm building this for saw some pics of some bikes is Japan that had the Firestones on them and fell in love.....
Gotta admit, the more photos I find with them, the more they grow on me...
