"Other Bikes" where you work.
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:38:01 PM »
started a new job recently,

Think I hit the mother lode..

about 60 workers at this place.

Shop foreman had an 06 dresser, his assistant an older Interceptor.

tool & die shop foreman rides a "Busa, the tool-maker has a GPZ (for 24 yrs)and a few other bikes.

Another guy rides and older gixxer, see a big cruiser there also.. Think there is a few more that arent out yet..

Sounds like a pretty high rider percentage to me.. might be a fun place to work..

How about where you guys work ??

Forgot about the hopped up Vmax another guy rides.. and today a newer Ducati was sitting there..

There are several who work for Bost Human Developement (that my wife and I work for, out of our home), that have bikes. Not sure of the models and years of all of them (about 6 or 7). there is a Honda 750 DOHC4 Nighthawk, a Suzuki V-Twin (all I know), a Yamaha Royal Star, Honda VTX1300, my 80' CB750K (and project bikes) and Not sure of the other 2. I'll have to do some checking into that. Just found out about the Honda a few days ago. You see, the only times we actually go into Bost, is for meetings appointments and to turn in paperwork. We are either at home, out at some kind of event or just out doing different things. ;)

Just more of the V-twin followers where I work:  Warrior, Softtail Night Train, Road Glide, Suzuki C50, VLX 600, Fat Boy, and an XS 850.  The XS has potential, but he says he is going to turn it in to a bobber.....

Great question.

At my current office (a 4-story building of 750? people), there are routinely about 10 bikes on nice (most) days.  There are about 15 or 20 different bikes that I've seen at one time or another.  On lousy days, there's two: mine and one other.  :)

There's an eclectic collection here; several 'cruiser' Harleys, several dresser Harleys, one $$$ Harley custom, several sport bikes, my '82 FT500, a Chinese Lifan 200cc clone sport bike (nearly every day!), a couple big BMWs, and an original Harley 350cc Aermacci bike from the early 70s.

At my previous job, a powerplant of 45 people total, there were 7 or 8 riders - all Harleys.

At one point, I was commuting my 60 mile round trip on a Yamaha XT200, mostly because it got 75 mpg!  One wise guy snapped this picture and added some comments:

05 ZX 650
05 HD Road King
08 GSXR 650 (600?)

Theres a guy "twinkie " at work with a 2000cc yamaha...!!!
The head man rides a '07 honda cbr1000rr, a twin(without the mods) to his race bike.
Some nice old harlies(pre '70's), quite a few shiny new ones this year so far. LOTS of honda and yamaha cruisers, more than of all the bikes.

Out of 350+ machinists/managers/engineers, etc about 100 ride on nice warm days.
The other half of the riding season, there is about 15 hard weather riders, ie light rain, below 50 degrees, windy, etc.
One guy rides year round on his 200cc dual purpose bike.
And of all people he is an engineer. Nice guy nontheless.  ;D ;D

I'll take my '79cb650 over any of them...

Went back to school after working for 20 years last fall. It's a school educating pre-school teachers, so naturally there's not many gearheads there, as most of the students are women in their early twenties. (Yeah, I know. it's tough... ;D) So most of the two-wheelers on the campus are 50cc scooters. But in addition to my 76 CB750 F1, one of the teachers rides a CB500. Not sure what year, but it's a sohc. Another of my teachers rides a 70's BMW R600. A couple of students ride different crotch-rockets, but I really haven't paid them much attention.... :P

I talked to one of the toolmakers, he said the guy with the "Busa has ran in the 8's.. :o

I will ask him tommorow.. I did ask him about the stock swingarm, he said he still likes to corner.. its a fairly normal looking bike.. will try to get the scoop on it..

-----------------------------------------------------

I asked today.. he said it runs mid nines.. I thought that was pretty good..

He may run it at the local drags this weekend, I may try to get up there.. seeing as I have no bike to race, might run a cage.. gotta see if I can still cut a light.. ;)

We have around 1100 employees. Nice weather, can see all kinds of things. Only thing I have noticed this year is a very notable number of little Vespa-like little scooters running around that in yrs past, had never seen any of them out here.
A good bike mechanic only needs two tools, WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move, but should, use the WD40. If it does move but shouldn't use the duct tape.
