Another MGB for me?
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:25:21 PM »
Had a car just like this in my 20's and loved it.
Thought it may be time again ;D

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/car/705271508.html

It has a bit of rust in the floor boards. just like my last one ;D  But other wise looks to be a great starting point project for my new garage. "Bike/Car shop build will soon be available on the Projects Area. Breaking ground next weekend 8)

I had a chance to pick one up several years ago and passed for another kind of car entirely; 1960 Dodge Dart- similar to below. Liked that MOPAR but the MGB (tin top) was the one that got away.

Great mind think alike! ;D I have been thinking about picking up a triumph spitfire or MG midget  due to rising gas prices. Yours looks very nice, now I'm even more motivated to find one.

OMG Ernie...  too funny!!  ;D ;D ;D

I had a Triumph GT6 back in college.  My buddy had a Spitfire.  I sure liked the nice inline 6, but I preferred the convertible Spitfire.  His dad had an Austin-Healy Sprite with a 12.75:1 1200cc motor.  Another chum had an MGB and my older brother had a Midget.

I wouldn't mind having a Spitfire to soak up my last disposable time and dollar...  :)

Come on now, an MG midget has to get at least 40 to the gallon, right? The motors are tiny and the car weighs less than a ton.

oh- absoLUTEly.

I know I'm on the edge of my chair.  Don't stop now ~

And don't forget their reliability in the fog and rain.
Rolling anvils, is what they are.
Worth a ton if they have SU carbs.  Try to get the originals.

Oh, they make pretty flowerpots, too.

seaweb - those are gorgeous cars and i've always admired them.  my dad had an mgb-gt and ended up rewiring the entire thing as what was on the car bore no resemblance to the wiring diagram.  then again, i suppose one must expect that of an older car.  but i'm sure you know the saying:  : Lucas, Prince of Darkness"

Ignore the ignorance shown here Seaweb,  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I hear the same stuff all the time with
my fiats. But funny thing is I've had less trouble than owners of the better more modern
cars at all the events I've entered. Of course you'll be setting it up much nicer than
the factory.

On another British car note, a friend had me go with him to inspect a 1980 Mini.
She's a nicely done car and he's buying it. Driving that right hand stuff is a trick though.
I went into a curve and hit the clutch to down shift, then grabbed the door handle. ;D ;D
1100 engine and gets 40mpg.

You people are so unkind.....if Derek wants to spend a lot of money who are we to stand in his way?
I would argue that for one of these beasts to have lasted this long must be a testament to something...... ;)
