78 CB750 air filters
« on: June 04, 2008, 03:56:22 PM »
Hey Guys,

My question is what would be good? I've heard K & N filters are the best and i'm shooting to get pod filters so I'm asking for anyones expertise on this situation. I heard K & N's are a little pricey so is it worth it? Or, is there something else out there that might be a little cheaper (most likely won't last as long) but still will work out. Again I'm looking to get 4 pods not a full stock filter like thing. If anyone knows of a good site or store as well to get what i'm looking for that would be great as well.

Thanks for your help on this,

Keegan

Depends on what you want to do.

I actually find my bike runs really well with a stock setup.  I use a K&N permanent washable filter.  I have brand new K&N pods that I decided not to use after seeing how well the bike was running when properly tuned and synched on the stock setup. The K&Ns were pricey.  There are very cheap imitations out there, but I'm a little leary of them.  Sure, with K&N you pay for brand name, but there is some truth to 'you get what you pay for' when buying parts.

This is one of the most discussed topics on this forum.  Type "pods" or "pod filters" into the search field on the main page.

I've seen there have been topics posted before but I'm trying to figure exactly what I need as well. I've seen and heard that I need a size 48mm filter to fit but then some say that I need a 44mm. I just figured I'd ask for someones expertise on the 78 CB750 to find out exactly what size would fit my bike.

Thanks again,
Keegan

I was wondering the same thing? I thought the measurement was 48mm but alot of sites list 44mm on the pod filters for the 78 cb750k.
Anyone know the correct measurement?
Thanks

measure the outside diameter of the throat, where the rubber boots mount.  i think it's 46mm, but you better check.

i ordered a nice set from a canadian firm found on fleabay that were supposed to fit my bike but were too tight.  figured they'd rip over time and sent 'em back.

nice bike you got there, love the blacked-out kick start lever  ;)

thanks about the kick starter, the previous owner blackened out a few things on there and when he put the for sale add up, it was defintely an eye catcher for me.

Thanks also for the tip. I'll get around to measuring that later today.

I dunno, I went with a K&N replacement filter that fits in the stock airbox, mainly because the paper ones are someday going to go away or get pricey  :)

I would read up on Pods before you spend any money on them.

At the risk of being slightly insulting . . .If you need someone else to tell you to measure the diameters of the carb's intakes when sizing for pods, perhaps you might not have the skills or experience required to tune the carbs properly once the pods are installed. . . . .It would be wise to consider the work involved tuning the carbs and dealing with the choke arm interference issues (on the 77/78 carbs) before plunking down the $ for PODs.  Also consider that the Pods will likely not yield as good all around performance as the stock airbox.  Yes, I use Pods on my 78 project but it is all about the look . . . .

The pods look OK but there have been so many reports of poor performance when the bikes are hit with side winds and having to hold your leg in a certain position. If you look at the stock airbox, Honda must have figured out where there was quiet air at speed and taken pains to draw it from that location and direction.
