Black spokes
« on: June 12, 2008, 11:13:26 PM »
I will have my wheels rebuilt soon and I want to use black spokes. Should I just get them from David Silver and then paint or powdercoat them? What have others done?

Thanks!

get a used wheel with straight spokes.  no rust.  remove spokes. powdercoat black.  why pay dss money if you are going to paint them?

unless i am missing something about 35 year old spokes being too fatigued for service.

bwahaha.  me too.  but new spokes are 'spensive!  i would look for a nice set of used ones- not the first dog that rolled by.  I priced spokes a while ago and IIRC i think, even still on a rim, they could be found for half the money.  add the powder coating and you are not saving a whole lot of money over new chrome ones though.

doesnt anyone make black spokes?

I bought my spoke set for $29 from PartsNMore.  That included new nipples.

 Just remembered.
You could have your stock spokes and nipples Black zinc plated. Or Black Chrome plated.

Black Oxide would be my choice. I love that flat black look. I think Eastwood sells a kit for that too.
