Goldwing would be on the top of my list!  BMW makes some nice cruisers too, but I personally would go for the Goldwing.

on the cheap?  SV650 standard or SV1000   How about the FZ1.  nice standard position, de-tuned R-1 engine.  I loved my monster and could work on them myself, but if you have no Ducati dealers then you have to order everything and that gets old if you want something "now".

Goldwing x2  you wont be sorry,Very comfy on the long rides. You could pickup a nice used one for a reasonable price. I did? The wife will even be happy with the seating.

Interceptor

Ditto on this one...the VFR/Interceptor has a simular riding position to the CB and has plenty of power for doing the job.

Take a look at a Suzuki Bandit 1250S. I bought one about 6 months ago and it is a great bike. It is more of a standard bike and it has a good seating position, I put risers on mine and it is very comfortable. There are hard bags available as well. The MSRP is 82000, but you can pick them up for as low as 7200. I think it's a lot of bike for the money.
