check your guides
« on: August 24, 2005, 06:47:16 PM »
I sent my head to a machine shop to have gone over and re-cut.  I sent along all the tolerances from my clymer.  well, they didn't pay any attention to that sheet.  the job they gave me was less than impressive.  there is so much play in the exhaust guides.  the stems are within tolerance but the guides are worn and need replaced.  I checked silver spares and he wants 120 USD for a new set.  where else have you guys been buying guides at?  I'm interested in checking a few websites and getting some prices.  thanks in advance.

My CB750 needs new guides (& valves) too. I want to do it this winter. Looking for any help with prices. Fitting them is no problem for me.

It's OK Sam. I'm stacked with obligations though. Better than sitting around. What's going to happen to that CR this winter?? ;)

Hope to have the motor built, and the rest of the bike a good going over.
We only have one more meeting then thats it.
there are quite a few meets, but they are not championship events.
The next one is a place called Santa Pod, one of if not the best drag strip in the UK.
Chris has been looking forward to riding there for ages.
I rode at one of the first meetings there, back in the late sixties, it was just an airfield back then.
It's better than some stateside tracks from what I saw in the 80s.
Time for a smoke then get ready for home and bed.

Regards Sam.
