CX500TC
« on: June 11, 2008, 01:34:12 PM »
What do you guys know about the cx500 turbos? I went to a local shop today to get some wheel bearings and I saw this guy:

Everything I can find on them says they only came in one color scheme and this isn't it. I guess it may have been repainted but what gets me is the decals.  From what I've found, they only had red decals on the sidecover; not gold like this one. It even has the "always wear a helmet" warning decal on the tank.  I wouldn't think that someone would repaint it the wrong color but then have reproduction decals made.

 I dunno...it has me stumped.

What do you guys think? Repainted with repro decals; Somthins kinda fishy; or maybe a little known factory oddity?

Sorry that it's b/w....but this is the only colour combo that I've ever seen them in. The wing decals are 'generic' Honda and the 'Preserve nature, think safety, wear a helmet' is readily available on eBay. I think it could be a 'dropped and then repainted' scenario. Just my 44 cents worth (4 cents + inflation).

I would love to have one of those. I recently bought a cx500 custom, and am very impressed with it....

Repaint- but I like it better.
People go to all kinds of lengths to mess with a bike's looks.  What the heck.
As an example, Bill recently put up some mighty tasty XS650s that look British.  Painted fenders, and all.  Mighty tasty...

If Turbo Boy offers to sell you that bike, kiss him and run.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Here's a color version I found.  Everything says this is what it should look like.

I'm pretty sure its been on its side though.  Its missing a mirror and has a broken/glued-back-together signal lens.  Im going back on Friday to pick up my bearings (only had 1 in stock) so I'll ask about it.  If I don't bust up laughing at the asking price I might talk him down enough to take it home.

Maybe it was downed at one point and when repaired the owner at the time decided to change up the color and got decals made to make it look factory?

Johnny, that color scheme you came up with is it for the CX500T.

The following year, it became the CX650T, and had a red, white and blue scheme.

Neat bikes.  I wouldn't mind having one in the OEM color scheme at all.  An '82 like that one was for sale near me a year or two ago and it was cosmetically very good, but didn't run...  I was thisclose ><  to buying it.

'course, I'm biased, too.  I've owned two CX500's over the years - a '79 standard and an '81 Custom.  I really like 'em.

So I went back to the shop today and asked about the bike.  He's asking $6500 :o I was able to restrain myself though...I didn't start laughing 'till I got back in the car.  No cx500 turbo for me; anyways got the bearings and I'm gonna put the 650 back together today, woohoo!
