Any way to get a longer gearshift lever?
« on: June 12, 2008, 08:04:57 PM »
I've got big feet, size 13's...  If I'm wearing boots worth riding in it can often be a pain to get them in and under the gearshift lever.  Is there an 'out of the box' bolt on lever that will give me a little more space?  It's fine if I'm wearing sneakers but I don't prefer to ride in those...  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try turning it a tooth on the spline, it that wont work.. cut & weld.. they are not rare..

Check out your friendly wreckers, Yamaha for some reason have incredibly long gear shifts (eg RD350) so if the spline size is compatible why not use something else.
Farm bikes have bigger shifters to get gumboots and work boots under them, so whip your shifter off and ask to see their whole selection.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I'll second raising it a few splines.  I wear size 14 insulated steel toes with no problems.

When I  had a cast on for a long time, I raised my shifter to about a 40 degree angle, then shifted with the back of my  ankle. I had cut the end of the shifter, welded on a nut, and put on a HD shifter peg (bigger diameter)

Along with what hUSH said, Mike's XS (toward the bottom of the page) has a bigfoot gear lever.  If I still had my 650 I'd check the splines for you to see if they match.
