The application for antique plates require that you get the following statement notarized:

"The said appearer, ______________________________________________________________, hereupon declares by
these present that the vehicle described below has been restored to the original condition without modifications contrary to stock specifications:"

Then, you have to include a picture of your stock bike:

"Return the completed affidavit and a recent color picture of the vehicle to:
P.O. Box 64886
Baton Rouge, LA 70896-4886
ATTN : Specialized Plate & Title Unit"

All that, for this:

link to the affidavit: http://www.dps.state.la.us/omv/1911.pdf

Would you bother?  I don't think my beloved Cassandra meets their requirements.  Oh well.

if you want an antique plate, i say fill out the form and let some payroll patriot bike expert in the rmv utilize their highly honed encyclopedic expertise.  if they happen to have hired marisa tomei in 'my cousin vinny' you could be out of luck and if so, just say it was stock to the best of your knowledge.  who are they to say otherwise?  most likely they'll take their rubber stamp, apply it directly and firmly in the appropriate location and say 'next'!  good luck!

I doubt they have a classic motorcycle expert scrutinize each application.  A lot of places are just concerned that any major changes from stock are period correct.  As long as it looks old to them, they'll probably approve it.

Unless you've really changed the outward appearance of the bike, go for it. They require the same thing hereabouts, but are a little more strict because by getting a 'Collector' plate your insurance cost becomes negligible (in the overall scheme of things).

And what about restrictions on how often it can be ridden?  Here in Virginia, the restrictions have been loosened a bit, but it used to be weekends only, unless taking it to a shop.  VA came up with another way to celebrate vehicle age with "vintage" tags.. Say your bike is registered as a '74.  Come up with a '74 tag,(2 for cars) have it's condition certified, and DMV will let you use that tag.  With no restrictions.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Wow, in AZ, they just go by the year on the title. No questions asked. Except the desk clerk didn't believe that they even HAD motorcycle vintage plates. I assured her that the PO had them, and she went in the back to look. She learned something that day, and so did I.   ;D\

In NY I can use a 1978 license plate on my 78K. I of course have to register it with that plate, however the plate must have a 1978 registration sticker on the plate.

In South Dakota an antique plate restricts use on any public road to and from a city or state sanctioned parades as long as you are an official entry of and ride in the parade...

But we let 15 year old kids drive???

Another wonderful example of logical thinking from the Mt Rushmore state.

I don't know how to post the page, so I'll just post the link to Arkansas procedure for Antique License for a motorcycle. Basically, you can do some modifications, if they are of the period of the manufacture of the motorcycle or if they are of a Safety Nature. now, it seems to me that Cafeing a bike would have been done back in the 80's, at least. Wouldn't it? ??? ;D If someone could, and wouldn't mind posting my info (from the link), it sure wouldn't hurt my feelings. ;) Also, Arkansas used to have restrictions as to when where and how much you could use the bike or vehicle, but not now.

             Then you get this:

I opted for a standard plate instead of WV antique tag for two reasons

First, I could not get a personalized antique tag

Next, with an antique tag I would only be permitted to drive from 4:pm Friday to 4pm Sunday, to shows, or for maintence purposes. I know many folks who blow those restriction off and ride when they damned well please. The benefits of an antique tag are we don't need to do a state inspection and the tags is good for years and cost less. But it is very restrictive. I also heard through the grapevine there may be a crack down in the future as they know these tags are being abused to avoid inspections.

Here in WA state, all we have is collector plate (30+ year old vehicles). No registration sticker, and no renewals on collector plates! My bike came with them and I paid the $34 to transfer to my name and I'm good FOREVER (gotta say it like in Sandlot). I think the stipulation is like 3000 miles per year or something (same stipulation for autos), but no body checks. They didn't even record the mileage when I bought it. Don't know about insurance break, I'll have to ask.

State inspections were mentioned by some. Arkansas did away with them several years ago (don't remember how long ago) because they weren't always done properly. ::) I guess it's cheaper to do that han to take corrective measures to better ensure proper inspections were done. :D

In Arkansas it only costs $5.00, bike must 20 years old and you have to have liability ins at minimum. That's about it. You get an antique plate and best part is you never have to renew it.

All this talk about what you have to do to get a special plate for your bikes, and Colorado doesn't even offer an antique or collector's plate for motorcycles! >:(

You can get one for any car over 25 years old with no restrictions that I know of, but nothing for bikes... :-\  I was going to get one for my workhorse '84 Honda Accord hatchback when it was old enough, but it died three short years before it's time, and very close to 300K.

That's a real shame that they don't consider motorcycles! :-\ Wonder if there's enough folks, who might use the system for the motorcycle plates, who could talk to their Congressmen and get a change? ??? Could use the economic standpoint. :)

Funny, I don't see any mention that you must be an Arkansas resident to get your motorcycle titled there... hmm.. (wheels turning)

Here's a clause Louisiana DOESN'T have:

Quote
o:     Modifications or deviations from the original specifications may be permitted under this classification if the modifications or deviations are of an historic nature and characteristic of the approximate era to which the motorcycle belongs or if they could be considered to be in the category of safety features.

Louisiana doesn't allow for that.   I'll calling Arkansas DMV to see what the residential requirements are.

Wonder if I can come up to Arkansas and register my 550?!?!?!?!

In Michigan I thinks it's only for parades and weekends maybe.  I wouldn't mind having an antique plate, but not if I can't freely ride the bike....   :-\

(Yeah... I know it's an old thread, but I had antique plates on my mind and didn't want to start a new thread.)

When I licensed my 750K1 here in Texas this summer, I had a choice between Antique and Classic plates.  The Antique plate limited usage to parades, car shows, etc.  The Classic plates had no such limitation.  Neither asked if the bike was stock or modified.

When I submitted my forms, the clerk asked for the color of my motorcycle - I couldn't figure that out until the plate arrived with Classic Motorcycle at the bottom IN RED.  ;D
