Need quick Ebay help!!!
« on: June 13, 2008, 09:20:58 AM »
Will this head work with my '77 CB750K?  I seem to be collecting heads lately and this seems like a decent deal:

In one of the answers, the seller specifies the engine number as CB750E-3102366.

According to http://www.sohc4.net/index.php?title=CB750K It must be at least a '78.  Does anyone know the final engine number for the '78s?  Also, are the SOHC heads all interchangeable?

According to that chart, the last engine number for the K8 was 3062980.  It must be an F head, but I can't access that info on the sohc4 website for some reason.

If it is a 75/76 F or 77/78 K it will have -392 cast on the top fin between #2 & #3 intake. This will work on all non 77/78 Fs without any problems.
The 77/78 F has -405 or a similar/close number in the same location. The 77/78F will work if you use cylinders up. It has larger valves (good) but bad valve angle that causes premature valve guide wear (bad). This head has 34mm intake valves and the older heads have 32mm intake valves.

This info should allow you to ask some pertinent questions of the seller.

It's an "F", not sure abot a fit on a 78. On the early ones the valves won't clear, and you'l loose some compression due to the larger chamber.  Fit aside  I wouldn't buy it without the original cam bearing caps. I believe they are line bored at the factory, so using other caps might require maching to fit the cam bearings corectly. The guru's around here can correct me if I'm wrong.

Use a matched set of cam towers and bearings! Any years will work.

750Fchop,

Distinct difference in 75/76F head and 77/78F heads. Be cautious when describing "F" to the unwary
