rubber tubes linking each carb
« on: August 27, 2005, 01:26:47 PM »
I have my bike running, but it runs rough. I've adjusted the timing and fuel/air screws on the bottom of each bowl to the appropriate spots. I noticed gas leaking from the rubber tube between carbs 2 and 3. It looks to have a split in it from age. Will that make that much of a difference in how the bike operates? (PS. I removed the carbs this afternoon and am replacing the black tube anyhow, but I was just wondering. My goal was to hear the bike run. Now, I've set the bar higher and want it to run right!

is it the rubber tube between the carb and the head or the tube on the bottom of the carbs?

have you checked the float height? are the floats sticking?

sounds like at least two problems.
(1) replace the rotten and leaking hose
(2) one or more carbs are floading

I still have the carbs off. I've replaced the rotten tube (the one between the carbs, not the drain tube from the bottom of the float bowl. they're fine. The floats look like they need to be moved up to meet the 12 mm required height. Now to remember which way to bend the little brass tongue. I can never remember which way will draw the floats up, although it's been explained on this site to me before....

bending the tab towards the valve, will stop fuel flow sooner. when it just barely touchs the valve tip, the float height just be close to spec. for float height measure from carb body and float bottom
