Carb jet problem
« on: June 13, 2008, 12:40:46 PM »
Hey this is a quick question, although I searched and found no answers for it. I was cleaning my carbs and now putting them back together when I ran into a snag. One of my jets will not fit back in. everytime i out it back it simply falls out. I tried rebuilding another carb and it went together fine. I have keihin carbs for a cb550 1976. I've included a picture to show the problem, sorry for the cell pic.

*edit* picture isnt working ill try to fix it.

here is a link to the pic. it isnt embedding for some reason.

Is the O-ring on the jet?  Hard to tell but I do not see an O-ring in the bottom slot.  This holds it initially and then the leaf spring, which is held in by the bowl, keeps the jet tight.

The oring on the jet is there to create a seal, not retention.

There is a dual leaf spring that holds the main jet in place when the bowl is installed.  It's not in your picture.

ok yes it is the o-ring jet. ok im glad to hear that the leaf spring will hold it. i was unsure b/c the other oring jets were difficult to remove and were snug when i replaced one on another carb. thanks guys for the speedy response.

Sounds like you need new orings.

Sounds like you need new orings.

Was just gonna say that. Because the new o-rings will hold it in place as a matter of fact, but its not necessarily the job of the o-ring. If you aren't gonna place new o-rings on em', then just hold the carb upside down with the jet and leaf spring in their proper position and screw on the float bowl. It will hold the jet in just fine.
