I have a few sets and use them oin the 400.
Fine shocks, and "rebuildable" when rebuilding parts were available. They came as dampers alone and you bought separate springs suitable for your application. The dealer would usually install the spring or you could do it yourself and Mulholland sold a simple lever thingy to compress the spring for installation.
The only problem I have had is the spring overall length is most of the length of the shock. Honda stockers have a shorter spring and just the damper down by the chain and guard, the Mulholland generally won't fit with a stock chain guard and even interferes with the chain on the 400 with the adjuster at the "lowest" setting. I cut out the stock chainguard to fit it but doing that now to a rare part wouldn't be a great solution. It might fit your bike no problem though.
More modern shocks like Hagons are better. The Mulhollands have no damping adjustments, as I recall the rebuilding kits may have had some options but once together the things are fixed damping.
I bought a set new years ago after I got bucked off the bike on a potholey road. The ride was greatly improved, and I've snagged 2 more pairs with varying spring sets at flea markets over the years.
