Here's why Honda claims they did it. Thought you guys might find this interesting...

I see your point Sam. Is that large exhaust cut out there because of the chamber shape? I don't know. I wish there was a close up picture.

All the pistons for all of these motors have a larger cut out for the inlet valve.
The combstion chambers are all the same as are the valves and valve angles apart from a squish band in the 154 motor to take the 5mm bigger pistons.
Although the pistons in the pic are much higher compression (8.7 up to 10 to 1) I still can't get my head round this big recesse for a small exhaust valve.
If they where Honda pistons I would put them in without a dought, but aftermarket thats another thing.
I will have to get the plastigauge on the job to be sure.

Thanks guys.

Sam.
I agree with the "aftermarket" part Sam and it would bother me about the valve relief.

Hey mike, guess what! just bought a close ratio gearbox of a guy in the States and he had a set of genuine Honda pistons.
The good news is they are the same as the aftermarket ones I got, so work on the motor can go ahead.
I have everything to do it now apart from the correct carb, just missed one on ebay a few nights ago >:(
Maybe another one will turn up by the time it's ready to go into the chasis.
