Good job planning the overhead lights, they shine through the windows of the garage door when it's up.

seaweb11,

I have been following your post, and especially enjoy looking at any new pictures you provide. I can not believe that the weather has been holding for you! It has already hit single digits here at night and now running around 34 during the days. Must be sea influence?

Keep up the great work!

But designing and hand building your own dream garage is I would hazard to say "just as" satisfying as a bike build.   There seems to be a thread that runs through my life that involves design, restoration and building something at all times ??? and if you are going to do it....do it well.

very well said my friend  ;D ;D i agree 100%

Thanks for the response Keith, glad I could see more clarity, I'm not an elitist, just a lucky guy ;D

I too have had some less than perfect working conditions until now, and I'm stoked that within a few days the boys and "girls" and the boat can come out of the wet winter.

Guy on the left is the Island "Hardware store owner". He used to install floors and I asked him to come over and give "Larry on the right"  and I a lesson on squaring up the room and getting started.
Tomorrow is the day!

In the 1st photo in the bottom left you can just make out some tiles layed on the floor.
There are now a couple of snap lines right in that area that we can follow out to the opposite corners and from there fill in and it will be square and perfect ;D

At least that's what we heard......................Beer.........

The idea is to spread glue over the entire garage area, take a 2 hour break, come back and lay them from the doorway once it is less than tacky. If you don't get to it all in a day, the glue surface will still effect an adhesion for up to 2 days.

So it's all or nothing, ya can't just do a test spot :P

Wish us luck ;D

You probably already know this, but expect that once you set down a tile, no matter how gently you do it, it's instantly stuck down for good.  OK, maybe not QUITE as bad as that, but flooring adhesives I've used tend to be very unforgiving.  Any errors will be magnified as you go, so be really anal about the first few courses.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

Thanks mystic_1

That's what scares me :o   I will approach the tile install with great expectations, plenty of enthusiasm and a some what screwed sense of construction techniques ;D ;D

Glue on entire floor, taking a break for it to dry.

Wish me luck!

Hey I dig that look!! That by itself looks cooler than any garage floor I have seen!!

BTW, what type of tiles are you using? Is there a way to keep them from getting beaten to hell and looking like crap?

My 18x22 is a mere wood shed compared to that beauty.

Do keep in mind this shop is going to shrink in size regularly... don't know how it works... but it does... built mine 2 times the size I thought I needed and it's just right...but I need storage now.. LOL

Don't go filling it with Junk... bring your scooters in... leave yourself plenty of work room and build a "really Really" nice bench... and enjoy the solitude...

I can't tell you how much I love my shop time...

So that is why you are putting in the loft, big screen and surround system! Well, it will sure beat sleeping on the couch!!

Guess What?

From this.....

To this in 5 1/2 months ;D

They must be happy, they all started without a gripe after not being ridden in a while ;D

HAPPY DANCE!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had a thought last night.  If I was to put a queen size bed in the loft, I could market the building as a B & B kind of idea for Traveling Bikers.  A warm shop to clean and work on your bike, Wood stove heat, a 42" Big screen, beer cooler, internet access, eggs and bacon in the house...make it yourself ;D

Could be a nice niche market, and a way to pay for this and also meet some interesting people.

Should I mention this to the wife??
