Way to do it, Seaweb.
Just out of curiosity, what's the mentality or should I say feedback from friends and family when you take time off work?
Here in the UK the whole system is geared up to make you feel guilty if you're an able-bodied man and can afford to take extended time off. For example I'm a freelance Draughtsman in the Water/Wastewater industry and have, for the past 3 years, worked solid on a couple of pretty lucrative contracts. So this year I thought, to hell with it I'm gonna take the rest of the summer off. Ride the bike, do some work on the resto, tidy up the garden, walk the dog, go up to London with the missus to catch a show etc. But all I get from neighbours, friends and family is; found another job yet? still at home? anything in the pipeline? getting bored? how're you coping money-wise?
£$%*&-off! I'm enjoying myself. When I run out of money I'll go and pick apples if necessary.

Hey seaweb, AWESOME work there!

As for heating, I would recommend the radiant floor heating.

Have you looked into one of those heaters that burn used engine oil?(any petroleum product i believe)
Un-godly expensive if I remember. However the savings in heating $$ saved get offset in only a few years.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Waste-Oil-Burner_W0QQitemZ220269301012QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220269301012&_trkparms=72%3A931%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Heres one thats a bit bigger than you would need, but the same type of unit only smaller might do you.

Soos. Thanks for the links, I may still bury some pipes under the slab so I have the radiant option later.

Thanks Hef, Nice looking layout there.

I always ask for help from others wiser than me. How else can you make good decisions ;D  How did you heat the water? Elect?

runs off the house boiler/furnace/burner/whatever you wanna callit for wherever you live  ;D which runs the hot water heater and the baseboard heat in most of the house... we're slowly converting a lot of the baseboard heat over to floor heat as the remodel progresses.

as the remodel progesses this week i'm still recovering from ripping up the cat piss carpet last week... i love my job.

but knowing you... you probably don't need any help.   ;)

p.s... i meant to say that in a kinder way than it came out... was only speaking to your experience that i've noticed in pictures.

They are supposed to be here Sat or Sun?  Been pissing rain here since they left. Looks like they are bringing the weather ;D

Na, just a bit of poo coming in from Alaska, should be cleared up by the weekend :-X

Got room for an extra cot?  I moving in!   ;D

You will have to fight it out with my daughter......she wants to move in to my bike shop and sleep in the loft

She has seen the TV cable line run and can see a flat screen, a wood stove and a bit of peace and quiet.  Too bad I have dibs on you all ;D ;D

On the radiant heating......I have decided not to go with it.  Installation requires 2" of Styrofoam on dirt, plastic vapour barrier and then pipes.

#1 A couple of concrete guys have said the Styrofoam makes for guaranteed cracks in slab.

#2 I just want to get this project finished.

#3 I don't live in Northern or even Southern Ontario ;D

#4 I believe a wood stove in there with my R38 insulation will work just fine.

I have ADHA. At this point in life I am well aware I need to get this to lock up stage before I can attempt anything else that would constitute meaningful work.  I do need to publish a book in Oct and I need this thing rapped up by then. Once that is done I can refocus on it again  in NOV.   PUSH/PUSH/PUSH

At the end of last week we finished off the floor for the concrete, then I had the enjoyment of having a SOHC forum member and friend from Colorado to play host to for the weekend.

Today we finished off the forms for the apron and sidewalks around the buildings ;D

Looking really good, seaweb.  I like how, in each picture you post, there seem to be more and more bikes stored in there already :D

WOW!!  :o

CRIPES! That thing is bigger than my house!!

Scratch that - It's bigger than my than my friggin LOT!

Man, I wish I could convince the wife to move someplace where we didn't have to spend 80% of our net income on a junky (yet still $500,000) house.

That is sooo friggin' tempting.  Hell, I would just build a yurt and save the construction costs:

OK.  Maybe two yurts.  One for the bikes.

I know you live up in heaven Derek but what did you think of Angels Camp or the surrounding area? I live 5 miles east of Angels. I like it here OK and its just a little skip up into the Sierras but I would really rather be the hell outa Calif. If it wasn't for my job,I'd think about up north or possibly over to Colorado. Already tried Wyoming.......It gets coooooold there!!!!

The weather on that trip to Angels 3 summers ago was not bad, went to see the Eagles in concert. Were you there? . The time before that it was so hot, when we went out on the lake in my boat you couldn't breath at 55mph :o   burned throat syndrome.

Beautiful area though.
