New guy from Upper Michigan
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:54:47 PM »
Hello all,

Just got my bike on the road a few weeks ago. Its been a slow 2 year resto project. It was a gift from a friend of mine for my 23rd birthday in 06. Its my first bike. Im a big car guy. But Ive entered a new world and I'm having a blast so far.....

Its a 72 CB500 with a 550 engine. Low miles and runs great.

Aside from the obvious stuff that one would replace in a resto project I changed a few things:

Drag bar with sport grips
37 and 15 tooth sprockets
Mac 4-1 header
Accel coil/wire kit
corbin seat
low pro turns
LED brake light
K&N front pads
Stainless front brake line with banjo brake switch
Pod air filters

Still in the works:

400 sport gas tank swap
lowered front and rear
adjustable alu rear shocks
cafe seat (still debating on that one....)
bigger jets to go with the hotter ingnition
And whatever else comes to me in dreams and such;)

Heres some before and after pics for your viewing pleasure. let me know what you think.

Ordered a set of Low profile mirrors. Ducatti look a likes I believe. I recieved a fix it ticket yesterday for not having one. I was going to get around to it soon. Now its just sooner than later:p

I also stripped the paint off the forks and polished them up last night. The joys of having intermittant Insomnia. I'll post pics if anyone wants to see them...

One of my rear shocks is really messed up. So the time to get new ones came sooner that later. I did a group order with a friend and got a set of these for each of us from France. I hope they come soon! Its too bad nobody in the states was selling them....

I think I've seen those shocks, or some like them on Ebay. Are they Posh? Perhaps you could write a reveiw after you get them and try'em  out. I would be very interested. By the way, hi from Bay City.

Hi, I like the look you've got going there. Nice job!

I'm interested in those shocks as well. Can you tell us a little more about them? Brand, cost, etc.? A similar set of shocks from Ohlins are about $1250.

Thanks. They werent too pricey. $163 with shipping. Yes, they are Posh.

I'll let you guys know how they ride. They look pretty slick in my opinion. Certainly not stock looking. But I like throwing a bit of modern look to an older bike.....

The guy has a bunch of them with different colors and such. Even a dual spring setup on one of them.

Here's the sellers link:

Shocks came in. They look pretty good. They fit nicely too and are adjustable in height up to 2 inches I believe. Also ride adjustable via air pressure .

I can't wait to get home and try out my set :-)

I will say they most definitely aren't comparable to a set of $1200 Ohlins but they look good, I'm sure are at least as good as new stock 70s vintage, and aren't that expensive. I'll give my thoughts as well when I get ahold of them.

That's what they call a Drag Bar. You can get them pretty much anywhere, but I think he got his at http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com
