Strange Electrical Issue
« on: June 16, 2008, 06:54:43 PM »
Dear CB gurus,
I have a 1974 cb550 with a strange electrical issue.
The bike starts and runs fine but as of last week, I lost the headlights, tail light, turn signals an starter.  Here is the weird part...
when the bike runs at idle, only the horn and ignition work.
Run it as high rpm, the turn sigs, headlight and tail light work, but dim way down and shut off completely when the rpms drop,  the bike and horn still work, but everything else stops working.  I have a brand new fully charged battery, but the headlight used to and should work when the bike is not running and the key is on.
Regulator, solenoid, rectifier, loose wire ?
I am totally stumped !
Any advise would be greatly appreciated,
thank you,   ???
Dave

I'm thinking a ground that's corroding and "in the process" of going bad.
Go metric, every inch of the way!
