new proj: 82 XJ1100
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:09:01 PM »

$460 w/ title. cranks and has decend compression. came with 2 carbs but only enough to build 1 (i guess the PO thought he could clean and rebuild them himself but lost some parts in the process...i don't know...). i'm actually budgeting this one to see how much i can get out of it (also help fund my cb). this is way too much bike for me. i can't even plant my feet while sitting on it. it needs side covers, all new brakes from MC to pads ($$$ =  ouch), and i prefer to take off the vetter and find the stock headlight.

luckly, theres a moto dealer down the road from me who has a stock pile of old jap bikes dying behind his shop. on the way back from picking this bike up i stopped to take a gander at what all he had. wouldn't you guess it, the first bike i come across was a 81 XS1100. it's nearly complete, just missing the tank and one side cover. exhaust and carbs looked great. if i can get the owner to let me haul it away or strip some parts, i'll be set.

Heck if you can haul away that bike you may be able to build one good bike out of two..

when i mentioned i'd go check out that XJ1100 for parts, turns out it was a smaller XJ like a 750 or 650...oh well.

here's the pics up to date:

i'm ebaying some covers, headlight, turn sigs, and some front horn cover. need to spend about $20 more on carb parts and it'll be ready to rock.

waddaya think? pretty good turn around?
