Okay, I put this here because I'm not just talking SOHC4s. I'm including the DOHC4s also. I'm talking about "All Around Performance" not just lugging around town and not just getting out on the hwy and cruising either. Example: my 77' CB750A has the stock 4 into 2 exhaust, while my 80' CB750K has stock pipes with Jardine 4 into 2 mufflers. I'm just wondering if I should be looking for different exhaust systems later on, for better all around performance.

                              Later on, Bill ;)

Now....this is Opinion......

I haven't noted any difference in performance between a baffled 4-4 and a Mac 4-2

Sounds different but not a noticable loss or gain.

Now thats seat of the pants....I don't have my dyno set up yet.....

I might be wrong but for all around performance I'd say it's hard to beat the stock exhaust. The manufactures go to a lot of r&d to come up with an exhaust that covers all the bases. Probably the biggest draw back to stock exhaust systems would be the weight and the emission controls they have to meet, but maybe not on the newer crotchrockets were all out performance is their goal. I have a 4 into 1 only because it was cheaper to buy and lighter, but I prefer the balanced look of a 4 into 2, and I wasn't looking for more performance but weight and a look. But like kghost said a lot is opinion and preference.

Do a little bit of research to find out which ones are nearly impossible to find.  Whichever style is hardest to get/most expensive; well that's always the best one. ;D ;D  Bill, how long have you been messing with these things?  Haven't you learned anything yet? ;) ;)  Remember, ANYTHING made out of unobtanium is better than the common stuff.

I was looking for differences that might have been noted by some  & preferences. I should have specified that I meant "non-stock" exhaust. I can appreciate the feeling by some, on liking a balanced look on a bike. Some bikes, in my opinion, seem to look better with a 4 into 1, while I feel some don't. The 4 into 4 that I was actually referring to, would be like a set of stock pipes with something like megaphones fitted to them. I know that, to get the most out of an exhaust system, it needs to be a "tuned" system, not just some old set of pipes (of ANY configuration) thrown on there.

Might know that okie would be busting my chops here! ::)  :D ;)
That's all right okie, you'll get yours. ::) ;D   BTW, most of the ones I had previous experience with were 1 & 2 cylinders and, yes I know that they are basically the same (just more cylinders) ::) ;)

Take care all (you too, okie  :D ), Bill ;)

When I changed from 4 into 2 strait pipes to 4 into 1 baffled, I got quite a bit extra out of my top end.  Higher speed with less RPM's makes for better HWY speeds.  ;D
