Need a template of a frame tube.
« on: June 15, 2008, 07:59:31 PM »
I need a cardboard template of the bottom edge of a frame tube over the valve cover on a CB750A.

That is to say, a stiff cardboard piece cut to fit closely up against the frame tubes underneath and cut at the front to match angle of the front downtubes..

it can be folded but prefer from front tube to where it becomes level again to not be folded.

if you need more info, please post, I need it mailed to Canada, will shoot you some cash for doing so..

I have a 76 A parts bike and could make that for you but I'm a little confused about exactly where you want it measured from? From the back edge of the valve cover? Do you want from the lower backbone tubes or the central one? How far down the down tubes do you want? Maybe you could draw the outline of what you are needing in photoshop and post it?

What I really need to know is where on those 2 lower 1 inch tubes the bent portion is.

so if you sneak a piece of carboard behind the lower tube, make a pencil mark for the frame  down tube (from neck to front motor mount).. then cut that so it is close.

Then reinsert cardboard and draw a line under the bottom of the lower tube. Then pull it out, trim with scissors so that it will fit up reasonably close to the bottom edge of the  1 inch frame tube & show where the  front downtube is, so that I know where the bent part sits..

Thanks, let me know if it is not clear.. I want to make my CB frame look like an Auto on those 2 rails, weld it in and never touch it again..

You want an outline from the front down tubes to the back of the tank under the 1" backbone tubes, right?

I was thinking of buying a Automatic just so you don't need to pull the motor to pull the valve cover. Put all my 78 750F part's on the auto frame.
That's what i'm thinking they did it for.

What I was thinking was to mod my 73 frame, once and for all.

The plant where I work bends a lot of 1 in tubing, if need be I could make a die.  If it works out I may make it in kit form.

Anyone got a sideview pic of this frame?

Ask and ye shall receive. It looks like a compound bend so I took 2 templates off so you can get it right. Templates are cut to the outside dimensions of the frame. If you want inside dimensions just remove 1" from the templates. Now where do I send the templates to?

I will message you my info.

Where these curved tubes meet the downtubes is the tubing level just before the weld, or still curved?

To make it work on an earlier one it will need a weld/splice about 3/4 inch from the downtube.

I should get valvecover to underside of tube measurement as well.

Thanks
