CR carbs on ebay $1375

Yikes!! and I think these were the ones with no idle circuits?

Another set went for $800 or so before that.

Does anyone know if all the old style CR carbs had no idle circuits, or just some?

At that price, does it matter if they have idle circuits or not?

Kehin made them with idle circuits also but I believe the first run did not. I can't remember how many revisions of the carbs there were before we get to the ones they make today but I think there are like 6 or 7 different variants.

I balked at several sets of these carbs back in 03 for $400 a set claiming they were too expensive, I did buy one set for $300 that have less than 10 miles on them and I am coveting them dearly (they even have the plastic v-stacks with the HM logo on them, I also have the throttle and the correct magura clipons).

I had a buddy who used to have these on an 811cc cb750F (with K motor) street bike, other than the fact that he used to keep having to wack the throttle to keep from dying at stoplights they were pretty docile carbs to live with.

For a race bike I don't think you can have a better carb, for a street bike the new CRs are better.

I've heard some very early ones were sandcast? The ones auctioned did not have the big red "CR" letters on the side like some do. I sure would like to know the history of these  carbs, they seem universally well liked.

I have a set of the new ones but really wanted the old style look for a vintage superbike build up. Anyone have a set of the old ones with idle circuit to trade for a new set still in the box?

Yeah, these are the second generation Keihin CR750 "tickler" 29mm carbs. No idle circuit, aluminum threaded v-stacks, tickler plunger on the side of the carb used to prime the carbs for starting since there is no choke and no accellerator pump, special rubber unobtainium adapters.  No CR letters on the carbs; they're stamped "CR750 29mm" on the support brace. They were also available in a CR900 31mm version with spacing for the Kawasaki Z-1. The earliest versions were magnesium, and the last mag set I saw sold in Europe for almost $4K USD.

I sold my last set of CR750's a few months ago to a well-known race team in the Midwest, and just picked up another set mounted on a #$%*in' CB750 drag bike that's built to the hilt. That bike will probably get raced with the CR's just for the heck of it... As someone else said, these are nice vintage race carbs, but they're impossible to get parts for and not really streetable. The new CR Specials are a much better carb for most purposes so you'd better really need a set of the early carbs to pay the price they're bringing.  RR

Here's a set of 31's that went a few days ago for almost $1000

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Keihin-CR-Racing-Carbs-Kawasaki-Dragbike-Z1-KZ900-Z1R_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a13Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem230300128073QQitemZ230300128073

I assume these were the CR900's then because they appear to have the tickler as well? They are also missing the "CR" logo

How can you identify the ones with idle circuits?
