Got a ticket!
« on: June 18, 2008, 01:27:50 PM »
For parking my bike "the wrong way" in front of my house!!! Am I to believe the pissy cops around here have nothing better to do than drive around neighborhoods and ticket people for stupid #$%* like that?!?!

It won't make you feel any better, but they would do it here as well and with cars also. Technically, it means you would be pulling away from the curb against traffic flow when you start out.

Reminds me of a Dragnet episode:

Plot:
Bill invites Joe to his home for dinner and a football game, but the game keeps getting interrupted by neighbors wanting to consult Bill on police-related matters. One neighbor complains of overzealous cops who ticket neighborhood people for minor parking infringements, and Bill patiently explains that those things are, in fact, against the law and he advises the neighbor to "Pay the $2." Ann Morgan Guilbert (Millie from 'The Dick Van Dyke Show') is featured as a spousal abuse victim whose complaints are played for laughs. Joe tells her that they can't arrest her husband just for throwing things at her, but if she lets them *hit* her, *then* they can run him in. Finally a neighbor calls to say that someone is trying to break into her house. Joe and Bill make the arrest, and Kent 'Adam 12' McCord assists. The episode ends humorously with Bill receiving a ticket for parking across the entrance to his own driveway, and Joe advises him to "Pay the $2."

You can just hope someday Karma catches up to the cop...

How does one park a bike the wrong way?  As far as I know, the back wheel goes against the curb, and if there's a hill, face it up the hill or in a direction that's good for the sidestand.

As far as cars go, I wish the cops would start writing in my neighborhood.  I have some whackos that whip around the cul de sac to park on the wrong side, invariably coming close to hitting someone in the process, and also park around the corner, making it a tight squeeze to get around them.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Well, Doug the law is the law.... ???
Next time you see a cop pull someone over, go check his tires. If they are bald he must give himself a ticket!   ;D  Did that once when  a cop stopped me for speeding, he dropped the ticket.

If I tried that Michel the cop would roll his eyes and then find something else to cite me for...I find they don't have a great sense of humour sometimes!

Unfortunately there are a lot of traffic laws that outwardly seem asinine, but as Bob says, they are in place to protect others in the extreme 'what if' scenario.

Seriously, I believe we have too many laws and not enough common sense utiltized by everyone.

Isn't there someplace we can live and drive like mad w/0 getting a speeding ticket?

Here in Vermont you can get a DWI ticket even if you are parked in a non-running car, no keys in the ignition, drinking a beer! Guy in the village took it all the way to the supreme court and lost.

While I didn't get a ticket... a LOT of riders received tickets around here last month.  Our lovely PD decided that due to the number of motorcycle accidents that resulted in death, they were going to target riders for the month of May.  Keep in mind that the 5 fatal accidents they mentioned were all caused by a cager except one.  The one that was the rider's fault, he was drunk and hit the median, then a tree, throwing his passenger off and killing her.

They mostly targeted crotch rockets.

Here's the press release:

"In an effort to reduce the number of injury and fatal accidents involving
motorcycles, the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Division will begin some
special enforcement efforts targeting common violations that contribute to
accidents involving motorcycles. Just over 2% of all registered vehicles in the
State of California are motorcycles yet they contribute to over 10 % of all fatal
accidents. There have been 5 fatal accidents in the City of Bakersfield involving
motorcycles since September 2007.

This will be an effort by the entire traffic division with some special enforcement
periods where extra traffic officers will be out targeting motorcyclists committing
violations frequently seen as primary causes of accidents. Some of the common
violations are excessive speed, frequent/unsafe lane changes, failure to signal,
following too close, right of way violations, and reckless operation.

The goal of these efforts is to reduce the number of accidents, injuries, and
fatalities by raising the awareness of all motorists on the streets of our
community. "

Do they mean common violations like pulling out in front of a motorcyclist or changing lanes into a motorcyclist because "I didn't see him there!"?

Yeah, didn't think so...
What a bunch of bull#$%*! ::)
