Gone
« on: June 19, 2008, 03:43:11 AM »
So in theory I'm out of here by the end June, I'm moving to the hinterlands and may not have the net or broadband don't know,(trying to deal with Mother Bell, to find out, is enough to make old people shag in doorways) Its been fun and I will miss Terry cranking everyone up.

Hey Bill, I hope this is a good move.  'Hinterlands' is usually good where I come from.  Much better than the city.  Where ya goin'?

Bill, I'm in the boonies and we have the best broadband service around. In fact we had it way before cities.
It's a telephone cooperative that is way ahead of the times. You might get lucky where ever you land.

I had to look up hinterlands.  Never heard that before, but I guessed from what everyone said it was the boonies.

Good luck out there.

The place I'm moving to is between Wiarton and Owen Sound Ontario in a township used to be called "Stony Keppel" and none of the tele companies want to provide coverage. I've heard of an outfit that does radio frequency connections for the net and have tried to contact them but no answer yet (satellite is really expensive, $60 a month plus a yearly fee plus installation of 600 + plus a two year contract). The place we're moving to has 4 acres and we're building a house on it, the last one, I don't think I've got another in me, things that I could do 20 years ago are beyond me now and the building code has changed so much that it becomes difficult for the home owner to do much. The examples are, plumbing, it has to meet code in ways that are not logical and practical for the average guy to do, ergo hire a contractor and watch the money flow like water, I figured that when I started that I was 20,000 bucks short now I think it's more, the guy that did the back hoe work lives across the road and is a friend but his bill is 4 grand more than expected, the building inspector said that before we can move in the basement has to be insulated ( a job for next year) so more coin for that. I've got to move in 7 days from now and I am behind in the work, the recent heat wave here has meant that I only get a couple of hours in before I flake out, things at 50-60 that wouldn't have bothered me, now at 69 it's a real fight. Any how the place has great trees, lots of space, very pretty, etc, so enough of me whining, if I can get hooked up after I move I'll rejoin the forum.
