Dyna 2000 and wires...
« on: May 31, 2008, 12:32:02 PM »
I just installed a set of Taylor 8mm Spiro Pro wires on my bike (it has the 2000). They seem to work well with no interference problems as far as I can tell. Nice thing is the come in colors and are nicer looking than the Dyna suppression wires. I believe they are a more efficient wire too (I read a comparison in Hot Rod a few years back).
If you are making wires you have to get the MSD mini crimper unit. It works GREAT and is very short money.

Thanks for the info but.... just a little too late Mike. I already installed the 8mm Dyna suppression wires for the D2K and to be quite honest I'm a little disappointed with them especially the caps.

Next go-round I'll spend more time looking for alternatives!

I had the set of Taylor's sitting in my cellar for about 10 months. i finally said I'm going to work on MY bike today (forget the 4 owned by other people), made the set and installed them. I also FINALLY broke into my Morgan carb synch tool that had been sitting (new, never used) for 10 months and used that too. Also did a valve adjustment on the old CB. Runs very nice now thank you. ;) ;)

I'm thinking about getting the 2000 and Z1 sells it with the 2.2 ohm coils, but offers the 3.0 ohm if you request it.

I don't understand about the ohms and suppression core (ie 7mm or 8mm).  Can anyone explain the differences to me?  Thanks.

Lower resistance coils use more power.  3ohm coils already present a decent strain on these old charging systems, and 2.2ohm coils would almost definitely be too much.  The suppression wires are used on the Dyna 2000 (and any other modern ignition) so the electrical pulses don't interfere with it's performance.
