CB550F clutch slippage
« on: July 09, 2008, 04:33:41 PM »
While on a ride not long ago, when coming onto the power at 55-60 mph, I encountered a bit of clutch slippage. It has happened on occasion before, and I took the clutch apart to measure it up before putting the whole she-bang back together. But the plates measured within spec ('75 CB550F) at .107 average (vs. .09 minimum), and the springs measured OK as well.
Should I just put it back together and live with it, or is it clutch replacement time?

Probably need the whole she-bang!

You could try a set of Barnett springs with the plates you have first. Often these thirty year old clutch springs are the biggest culprit.
