78'750F to K conversion?
« on: June 17, 2008, 09:58:56 PM »
Just picked up a 78' CB750F with 11,000 orig miles on it.  It is in rough shape, carbs are a wreck...electrical is chopped, boots and airbox are old and dry rotten.  Anyway i plan on pulling the engine, and sitting it aside untill my 40,000mile K engine gets tired.  Anyway...I want to swap the front end, its just that easy correct?  Also, what about the rear disc setup?  do i need to swap swingarms or is it just a few bolts.. Thanks guys!
P.S looking to swap these parts over to my 78' CB750 K

Did you try a search, I have seen several threads on cafe bikes that were once a K bike and they put F discs on the rear, if no luck give it more time and someone will chime in.

The front swap should be fairly straighforward if you want to just slide the fork tubes up into the K triple.  You'll need to use the F master cylinder as well.  I'm not sure if the K has the mounting point for the brake line splitter from one to two or not so you'll need to take look at that.

The rear will probably require the F swing arm along with the wheel and the braking components.  You may have to rig up a hanger for the master cylinder as well.

Looking at both bikes closely will help you determine if there are brackets in place for the rear master cylinder which will work and if there are hose clips that will work as well.

i just picked up a '78F w/a '78K motor in it and '78F carbs.  engine is strong as hell w/excellant compression.  very nice chrome everywhere and the bike is pretty sweet except for the drive:  chain/sprockets and rear wheel bearings needed replacement as did the steering head bearings.

am pretty sure the F front will mount directly to the front K.  i assume you intend to swap the triples?  that's for the brake line splitter mount  swapping over to the rear disc might be a little tricky tho.  swingarm looks similar to my '78K but you'll need to swap the footpeg brackets and figure a place for the brake arm mount on the frame.  someone here may have done it, but not me.  good luck,
bobp

ps - if you decide to not do the rear disc swap, i'd be interested in the R footpeg bracket.  need a spare for some experimental milling work.
