Actually i understand some Walmarts are doing it. It is not about laziness, it is about tire and wheel longevity. There is no oxygen to react with the tire or tube.

This post has gone way off of the original topic but I have had a few laughs too. I did end up sending the tire back but was unhappy that Bridgestone does not make the Raised White Letter in that size anymore. I'm not sure why but I'll probably just paint the lettering with one of those paint pens. I now have 2008 made tire and I must say that it feels way better to the touch and is less glossy then the original 2002 tire they sent me. I will corner much better knowing that's the case. No more excuses for the chicken strip!
