problems
« on: June 12, 2008, 07:59:53 PM »
Over the last few nights, moving about the board and posting has been a real pain in the but.
I just did a big post that took about half an hour to type, pressed the post thing and it looked like it had gone but the post stayed there in front of me where I had just typed it, then I got page can not be found, then lost the lot >:( >:( >:( >:(
Is anyone else having problems, this usually only happens when Glenn is working on the board.

Yeah Sam, I've had that happen when typing long winded posts too.

I think it's a time out or something.

What I do now is when I've typed a lot, which I'd rather not do twice, I highlight the whole thing, right click and copy it before I hit the post button.

That way, if it happens I just go back and past the message in again and retry.

I've had that happen, too, but I can usually just hit the back button and everything I typed is still there, and then I just hit the post button again.

I did just that Gordon, that's when I lost it.

That's a good idea Matt, have to give it a try sometime.

Is it just me that the board is running slow for? It's not only posting, just moving from say the open forum to other bikes, seems to take ages.

All the other boards that I frequent during the night seem OK so it can't be my computer, or can it ?

It's been a little slow for me today, too.  Taking longer to load a new page than normal.  Looking at the forum stats, this May and June have been an especially busy time period.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

edit:  May 2008 has had more new topics, more new posts, more new members, and more page views than any other month since these forums began, and June looks to be keeping up with that trend.

It could be the server this site is on having problems or your internet provider.  I've had days that I couldn't go one to some sites and others were fine.  My internet provider said the routing tables were screwed up.

If you're typing a post, you can hit ctrl-a and you'll highlight the what you've typed so far, then ctrl-c and it will copy it.  Same as above, just done with keyboard shortcuts. ctrl+x=cut, ctrl+v=paste, ctrl+z= undo, ctrl+y=redo.  I likes my shortcuts.  Windows key +d=show desktop(d for Desktop) +e=my computer(e for windows Explorer) +f=search your computer(f for Find) Windows key then u(shut down), then r for Reboot, Alt+F4=Close whatever program you're working in.  Alt+tab switches between your open windows. Just for switching between the window you're in and the last one you were in, alt tab, then to switch again, alt tab again.  You can move through them one at a time by holding down the alt key and pressing the tab key repeatedly -go too far? keep the alt key held, hold the #$%*(ha ha, oops, I tried to spell shift and spelled sh!t) key and press tab and you'll go back one in the list.  For switching between tabs in firefox, ctrl+tab will move you one to the right, ctrl+shift+tab one to the left, ctrl+1 will take you to the first tab, ctrl+9 will take you to the last tab.

There are tons more, but those are some I use regularly.  Did I mention I like shortcuts?

You spend enough time computing Sam to learn some of these. ;D  I got on a kick where I picked a new shortcut every week and made a point to use it every time I needed to do whatever it was.  It's a nice feeling to get liberated from that d@mned mouse.  Gives your left hand something to do.

Hey Sam. If in doubt print the post, fax it to yourself, re-type it and then post it. Works for me. ;)
