YAMIYA750 Problems

For the K1 I plan to restore this winter, I wanted a new tail light number bracket. I was told this was not available as NOS.

However, on eBay, seller yamaya750 was selling this one where they claimed it was a Honda Original - New Honda Genuine Part.

Well, the part is a close copy of the original but the steel is obviously cheaper as is the chroming. See the picture below:



As you can see from where I put the arrows, the part they sent is thinner in the area marked.

So, my question is does anyone know for sure whether thius part could have come from Honda or not? Like I said, it seems much lower quality than the stock piece and the shape is different. But as I am now learning, NOS Honda parts can have some variations.

Wow...that is the first complaint I ever heard about Yamiya.  I bought a lot of stuff from them and have to say all is well here.  Fast shipping and quality products.  The chrome was good too.  Any chance you just got a defective part?  With my 750KO I wanted to keep the original pieces on the bike so I opted to just rechrome.  I paid $70 to have that part chromed and no shipping.  My rechrome looks better than the factory chrome too.  Maybe that is your best option here.  Keep in mind that some of the parts I got from my Honda dealer were supposed to be "original" but when I got them they were different.  An example of that are the front blinker studs I had ordered came with the original part number, but the hex nut was like 2 sizes bigger.  Good luck with your restore.

Understand the frustration of not being satisfied. But to be fair, they did the right thing and offered to refund your money. So while you say you're "stuck" with the part, that's debatable.

It seems from what some are saying that NOS parts from Honda can be different from the originals. I would not have thought that. So, for now.. I edited my orginal post to be more of a question..

Can anyone confirm that Honda is making a replacement taillight bracket that is this much different from the original??

What you can't see from the photo is the poor quality of the piece. It has areas in the metal that appears to never been sanded before chroming and has a dimple from the stamping machine that the original does not.

As for the comment about them doing the right thing.. I don't agree. I had to pay before they sent it to me. I feel they should refund before I send it to them.

To be honest... I still do not believe Honda would produce such a crappy piece, but will give benefit of doubt and try to get some confirmation.

Unfortunately, that's not how things work.  As a seller on eBay, I will not refund before I get the item back.  I don't know any others that do either.  In fact, when buying from any online retailer (Best Buy, JC Whitney, etc), they will not refund your money until they receive the item back.

In fact, when returning an item to a brick and mortar store, you generally hand the clerk the item back before he hands you your refund. 

The seller in this situation has done the right thing.

Any Honda part is subject to continuous re-design and as long as it is a direct replacement fit can, and will, use the same part number.

As with all manufacturers Honda have shaved costs to be able to still make a profit and quality is not as good--also if it is made on the same dies those dies are now 30+ years old and worn + rusty where not used as much.

It is perfectly reasonable to not refund until the part is returnedto supplier---you may be honest and i would hope certainly are, but some may claim faults, still use the item and never return OR have "modified" the item to make it unsaleable.

Finally the quality of chroming/polishing on Honda parts was never that good ESPECIALLY where not visible E.G underside of rear brake pedal; inside of rear light bracket etc

I recently sold an item on ebay, and the buyer was not satisfied. I offered a refund but she insisted she would only return the item if I send the money back first.


I tried to explain her that she had no reason to be worried. I already had the money before I sent her the item, so there would be no reason for me to keep the money AND the item when I could have had the money AND the item before I send it and pocket the postage cost. But she insisted that she would complain to eBay.


It was two months ago. She still have the item and I already spent the money on bike parts I don't need..... and I didn't receive any news from eBay either.
