Progress picture of tins:

Color is right. Flake looks a little weird, but one's minds eye sometimes doesn't match what one is asking for. I'm sure it'll grow on me as being what i wanted. Still a lot of dust on them, and they need the final sanding, etc.

Flames and graphics to come maybe not till next week.

As Bud said, "they'll see me coming down the road" and that's what I wanted.

Hope to finish the brakes tonight and start it Sunday.

That's right, he told me that's how he would do it. So can't complain.

Did a quick Google on this and it seems to be common, though it definitely has a different look. Smaller flake in the color, larger flake in the clear.

See the second paragraph:

yeah...you never really can tell what stuff really looks like from internet photos anyway...last paintjob I had done the color didn't look right unless the light was just right, and even then it looked slightly different every time I looked at it!  This was supposed to be candy sunrise orange...a dab of this, a slosh of that...uh oh, put more red in quick!

I see. If one didn't know what you were going for, I'd say it looks fine.

I think when its finished I'll like it. I don't think I've ever seen flake in the clear before, so it stumped me, but seems its if not standard practice at least a practice.

And worst come to worst, it can always be redone. But in fairness I think he's done so far what i asked him to do. I want the thing to be over the top obnoxious, and I think we'll get there.    ;D

Silver flake in the clear will pick up the color of the base some when in bright light.  Saw a Volvo 1800S in Corvette Yellow with fine metalflake in the clear several years ago and it was gorgeous and blinding bright yellow in sunlight...it glowed!

I'm sure it will look a little different when finished and different indoors than when outdoors.

Thanks, I think this will too. Painter said so. Needs sunlight.  I probably should have gone with a smaller flake.

It will definitely take on a different look with sun light.  Also by the time he's added all your other details (flames, wolf's head, name ect.), the overall look will evolve more.  Like were its headed. 8)

Like Bud said, "They'll see you coming!" This bike was destined to leave an impression with everyone who has been watching the thread and everyone who sees it. So, why hold back now? Nearly everything done on the bike has been over the top. The only one you need to please on this build is yourself, as it is your dream. The rest of the opinions are just that, enough said.
I hope it turns out to your expectations and to your liking.

MC, Wow!
The base purple with the metal flake looks absolutely just ‘Killer’ and a great color choice. :) As the graphics and flames are applied, the percentage of remaining purple metal flake will add another depth of dimension, so to speak. I can’t wait to see more progress pics as they come. Any plans for a matching custom helmet paint and/or graphics work?

Thanks to everyone fro comments. This comes under the heading "be careful what you ask for, you might get it".   ;D

Hino: I just bot a new Nolan N90 for the season. Its the modular helmet where the chinbar rises up. I took it to the painter and he said he didn't recommend doing it. The shell would need to be stripped of all its hardware to be done right and he's done a few that weren't stripped and the customers weren't happy. So plain silver it is.

He did give me the name of his pin striper and I might have it pinstriped in the colors of the tins.

BB: That's cool, we sold a lot of metalflake helmets in the day. AS my painter said to do it you need a plain shell, like the one in your picture.

When you have a modern helmet with vents, integral shields, and hardware, the paiint gets everywhere you don't want it, even with masking. So, plain (metallic silver) for me or pinstriping which can go right over the factory finish.

I would not put any flames or graphics on that metal flake.
Its already got plenty going on with it.

Just make sure it has a good clear coat that is smooth.

Thanks for the suggestion. I understand what you're saying. But the theme stays intact, in fact it may already be done.   ;D

The painter is very particular about his clear, it will be smooth. The purple, then 5 layers of clear with the flake, sanded smooth, then the flames, then layers of clear to smooth, then the wolf's head and more clear till smooth.

Some will like it some will hate it. So it goes.   ;D

I think that paint is awesome, Ron!  It's going to look cool with the gold frame.  I bet when it's all done, sanded, polished, etc.,the purple will come through more....especially in natural light.  Hard to get a true rendering from a digital pic in a shop under fluorescent lights and a camera flash.  Can't wait to see the finished product!   :D

Just holler if you decide to go with some silver sparkle for the jewels. You can swap them out like cufflinks, depending on your mood. I along with many other on here cant frigging wait to see the finished product because...honestly, this is your vision and I cant imagine how "POW" it will all "SCHABANG" go "BLING CHA CHINGA" together. Going to be nuts.

You seem like a pretty straight laced dude Ron, but I bet when the bike is on final assembly you will be smiling so hard you will go to bed with a headache of awesomeness.

Good luck, great project and thanks for the motivation outside the box.

Thanks everyone.

FFS: "Phaedrus" was Pirsig's alter ego. I'm a pretty milk toast kind of guy and have to live my "other life" thru motocycles. So my motorcycle is me expressing some inner rowdiness.

Got on this kick way back in the 70s/80s, and its been fun.

I really like the jewels just as they are. If we did anything it would be to golden up the  color a tad. But i really won't know till its together.
