Isaac rain precludes any test riding. So took opportuity to fix a wart. Problem with big projects no matter how good it looks, the builder (me) still knows where the warts are.  In this case the front wheel was offset in the forks about an 1/8 inch. Don't know how. Anyway, while on the stand to balance, took the time to loosen one side and tighten the other and drew it right back to center. Now to mount it up. Forks aligned, springs are in.

Got hold of a substitute camera, pics at 11.

Thanks for noticing. And nearly 135,000 hits!  The per week hit count has actually increased this year!

Can't deny that it's knowing we're being watched that keeps us going, when it gets tough or discouraging.

Another wart i took care of. The tab on the rt side engine guard was hitting the #2 pipe. I doubt that Marshall and the maker of the guards ever compared notes for clearance.

I took it off and ground it down. Metallic gold touch up paint from the crafts dept at WalMart is an amazing match.

Ditched the funky lead crimp on weight that didn't fit right anyway for a chrome one from Buchanans. There is a soft spongy insert seen here as a grey glob on the spoke. It pushes up into the bottom of the weight, then you puch the whole thing down onto the nipple for a firm fit.

Buckets used for ballast at the rear of bike.

forks fully compressed, tubes and legs aligned.

Brakes are back on, tanks back on. First dry day get out for a test ride.

Pricey? Well, the shock eventually wears off and the chrome keeps shining.

Ribs are funny, still a little touchy, but not keeping me from doing what i want, with an occasional wince.
Thanks for asking.
Plans are to get the FJR Saturday.

Got it started up again today. Still smoking. Identified some oil leaks that need to be addressed before taking it out on the road.

Discovered the P Clamps won't fit the tubes without a shim that requires removal of the fork tubes. Not gunna.

But that helped us discover a better place to mount the horns without the clamps. Simpler is better.

Photobucket not cooperating. Pictures tomorrow.

Mini Horns go here and other side. Original Horn bracket reserved for oil cooler mount.

Mini Horns much smaller than Nautilus originally thought for this project. I'll use a relay to pump up the volume. But they got 4.5 star ratings from many buyers for volume, so I hope so.

Where did you get the Mini horns and do you need to run both of them?

In the process of changing horns myself...

One review says "wussy", one says "loud", one doesn't say.

Don't "need" to run 2, but I'm suspicious they may not be loud enough. 2 with a relay will be louder.

Awful purdy though.

NO WAY PAL! I've got a lifetime exclusive on these!

Not really. Talk to Joe.

Joe, they look great!

Back Story: Joe had already made me some, but they were a little too yellow for my taste. So I got some golder glitter from JoAnne Fabrics in the arts and crafts department. ANd Joe did the rest.

That Gold should go with my color scheme a little better. I've got some yellow/gold ones for sale.

I've got a pair of those Nautilus horns on my Suzy GS1000 Joe, they are absolutely brilliant! If those mini horns are too woosy, find somewhere to mount the Nautilus ones, you won't be disappointed! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

since you have now posted in this thread, anytime someone else posts a new post in this thread you will be notified in the "Show new replies to your posts" area which is next to your picture at the top of the page.

As for finding things, use the google custom search feature rather than the forum search feature.  Its the one under your picture rather than the one in the upper righthand corner... it doesnt work right.

hope that helps

Gone on a bidnuss trip till Sat PM. But we tinkered around. Some pesky problems aren't resolving themselves. Mike R gave me tips on crankcase stud oil leaks. On 2nd Alt cover gasket, still leaks. I'm not confident its pulling and returning oil from the tank properly. But We'll keep at it.

I did rev it several times past redline and it sounds great, so that's motivating. I'm sure under load it will need some tweaking. Nice and quiet, not OEM but not offensive either.

Seems State Farm has totalled my FJR. Wasn't really expecting to throw another project (parting it out) in the mix. But seems I should press ahead with that as well.

That was my go-to, steady freddy ride. Now, nothing, they all need work.

Well, I am sorry to read your FJR was totaled, probably for the best as tweaked bikes don't handle well. Sorry she's gone though.  You have reached the time if year in your neck of the woods that people start unloading their bikes and prices get more attractive from a buyer's perspective. Park the FJR in the corner after you buy it back and deal with her this winter. Maybe you can score a solid one to rebuild/refurbish between now and sometime this spring.

Keep focus on Phaedrus until she's sorted...but you know this

Have you considered cutting a neoprene gasket from a new one as a pattern to see if that would help?
Are you using mother Honda oem gaskets? Any scratches in gasket surfaces? Any way to measure parts that bolt up for warp? (550 owner so things are a little different, but it is a hard part to measure if it is what I am thinking it is.)

Thanks, I'll miss it. Lots of memories. I'm letting the insurance Co take it for auction. Their payout to me was generous, and i don't need a wreck in the shop and the prospect of another project. In fact, I've seen several newer (significant upgrades to brakes, ABS, etc.) low mileage (lower than mine) FJRs on eBay for not much more than my settlement plus shipping. Some were in IL or MI which is nothing. So that's what I could do.

Focus on Phaedrus 100%. It once was my go to never fail me ride and can be again.

I have several gasket options, i even have an MLS from CycleX. NEVER had a dyno cover leak before. Could be a warp from polishing or nick.  Bummer. It will be fixed.
