Got the calipers back together and on the bike. I bot and used the Hi Vac Silicone grease recommended on the forum by Two-Tired. I used a Q tip to roll up some grease and spread it on the circumference of the pads, lightly. Doesn't take much. A touch on the backside of the pads as well.

To get dual calipers on a 2.15 x 18" wheel, one must be committed. The right side (forks reversed) goes on pretty easy, no spacers. The left side requires spacers. The spacers must be threaded on the bolts before offering it up to the fork. Spacers want to fall off, need 3 hands.

Both sides are too close to the edge of the rim to use wobblies on an extension. Must use a combo wrench and there is only enough room to turn the bolt 1/6th of a turn each time. Is it worth it? It will be.

Hoses next then bleeding.

Thanks! Phaedrus I had the 3-2-3 holes. The discs were thinned in 1976. I may have gone a lttle overboard with the big holes. The machinist who was experienced in many different patterns didn't say not to. So here they are. He made a pass on the grinder too, to true them up and clean them, hence the swirls.

In theory by drilling holes with a diameter larger than the disc thickness you are decreasing the total surface are of the disc so it is less effective in transferring heat.  This surface area includes the sides of the holes...this is where you actually gain heat transferring surface area by drilling holes with a diameter smaller than the disc thickness.  Your disc will be less effective in picking up heat from the pads (due to less contact area) and transferring it to the air (due to less overall surface area).  I use that same 3/2/3 pattern for all my bikes but without the large hole.  Now that's theory and in reality does it really make a difference in normal day to day driving.....not sure.  Just put it out there for discussion.   It does look cool....even if it may not run cool. ;)

SRust: I would agree with all you say. Had they been going on a racer, I would have restrained the hole size. But as you allude: on a street bike, esp one that may not get ridden too much, do we care?    ;)

It was a struggle, but we won. Got the brakes bled harder than, well... leave that to Carpy. Part of my problem is the way I've plumbed the second caliper. Taking a hose from the left over the fender to the right one. Really cool I think, the 2nd hose being virtually out of sight till you get up on it. And there is only one bleeder. Saw it that way on some sport bike.

But the arch will trap air and simply not bleed. The fluid must pass under the air dropping into the right caliper. My mitey vac draws clear fluid out of the right caliper, but the lever is still soft.  So, it means taking the right one off and holding it up. The air flows out quickly, a speed bleeder helps, as it burps its way to firmness.

World class messy.

It now brakes and releases as good as any I've ever had or seen. Maybe I'll ride it this weekend.   :D

NCCB:
Since that first video, we rebuilt the top end. The original one smoked too much. Long story, but it was decided to just start fresh and eliminate the variables. MRieck did all the machine work. Scored a new block from eBay, re sleeved it with larger sleeves to accommodate the 888cc displacement. We used the Arias pistons over, but Mike scored us some new Total Seal piston rings. Went thru the head. He touched up (that may be putting it mildly, idk) the existing porting job, cleaned and painted it (not a small job, it was a mess) new guides, new cut on valve seats, OS intake valves. Me and Bruce assembled it.

Besides the recent rebuild of the brakes, we had a centerstand cut down and chromed to accommodate the lower ride height. Adjustable side stand from Soupy in Michigan. Cobbled together a muffler mount/centerstand stop that will be redone at a later date. WE had the front end stripped part way down to massage it to move properly. It was locked up, but seems to be OK now.

Replaced a myriad of parts with chrome or finned pieces, installed a HondaMan ignition, Hlight relays, worked on a bunch of things that weren't copacetic, like the Rr TS bolts which would have fouled the rear tire had it hit a big enough bump. Replaced the drive chain with a gold one. Lots of things for the "look", I'm not ashamed to say. That's part of what this is all about.   :D

We bundles it up for a ride, on the driveway.

It painds me to realize how weak the neuropathy has made me. Maybe this will be reincentive to up the physical therapy.

Practiced loading and unloading...

It was fun all in all. My heart was pounding, first time I'd been on a bike since the FJR crash almost 2 years ago.   ;D

Oh Yes Ron ! Nice to see her under you & up on the trailer for a Roll  ;D
I'd 'Up' the physical therapy  :) I've heard of folks w/ that neuropathy use the stationary/life cycle bicycle also and Spin! in high cadence and then lay on their backs w/ legs and feet to the sky for a few minutes then re- Cycle w/ high cadence/rpm's again and repeat. couldn't hurt if you're 'up' for it

Cheers Ron, great to see a pic of you on the bike, and the trailer looks like it works a charm. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Not sure if the way you have it tied down is how you plan to do it?  I've found the best way is: at the front around the top of sliders, and at the rear at the base of the shocks.  Allows the suspension to move without putting strain on the tie-downs.

One thing about this I've read about, any therapy, drug routine etc is about 40% effective to any particular group. So you really have to shop around to find something that helps. Besides NordicTrac and floor exercizes I'm starting Water Aerobice tonight. Already take a cocktail of holistic nutrition supplements. Drs readily admit pharmaceuticals only effective for pain, nothing actually improves the nerve damage. Except supplements, but little clinical evidence just persnal anecdotals.

Thx for thinking of me.

Thx for checking in. This one still has a way to go. Chainguard, oil cooler (maybe), muffler brckt, Frt fender looks OK in pictures but needs some work.

But its a different animal now.

In 1996 I bought a barn find: a 1968 CB77 (Super Hawk). The lady's husband bought it new, and left it completely original. Died in 1974. She parked it in a corner of her general store (heated and cooled) till I bought it. So I need to refinish it, very close to original.

And there's a few other chassis sitting around here that need work.   :D

Well ok then, I can see your mind won't go soft with nothing to do! The CB77 should be fun, fine motorcycles for their day. I have a recipe to create a six speed for those....with a little work you're interested.
