Puled the oil pan to inspect pump screen. Couldn't really get it off, pipe in way. But was able to drop it to where I could see the screen and rub my fingers over it and in the pan.

A little fluff in screen, assumed to be from prior clutch plates which seemed to have melted down.  There was a lot of fluff in screen when checked previously. Now just a slight amount with more miles than before. Situation deemed OK.  Inspected oil filter and cover, All OK.

Next, we need more mileage. Hopefully this weekend, 50-100 or so.

Tentative schedule is for more miles this weekend. Then maybe the drags OCt 8, or 15.

Just ordered a 17t sprocket. Currently geared 18/48. Mike tells me that may be a little high even with the 17" rear wheel. Not going for absolute best time. But a good time for a streetbike.

The lever feel is very firm, but progressive.

But actually underway, I don't know. Rick said it may get to be a handful in traffic, but just riding , it was OK.

It doesn't slip, that's the main thing.   :D

There have been some threads about spin on oil filters. I was interested in one as well. But the number of testimonials as to poor quality, leaks etc turne me off. I settled for a turned down unit from Carpy. It has all the fins turned off and then grooves turned in. To match the other grooved items of his that I have. Like the grooved rear axle spacer, and the grooved brake stay.

Anyway, by turning off the locating lug, we have 2 worlds. A high quality spin on. A standard oil filter which needs a wrench to cinch it up and loosen it.  Once its spun on, just hold it still to line up the front fins to vertical, hit it with a quarter turn on the wrench and done.

Not the best picture to show what I mean. Ill post a different view if anyone cares.

Prepping for Drag Strip:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=141770.new#new

Mike said get the gearing down, so I ordered a 17t sprocket. 48t rear and 17" rear wheel, /70 tire.

I think my bettery is fired. We abused it, discharged it a few times and never treated it fairlly. Now that the electrics are sorted, I ordered an AGM Scorpion.

The best, early, CB750 stock turned 12.9. I'd be happy starting there and getting into the 11s.

No mileage this weekend, rider called in sick. Taking it to Saldanas for a new chainguard. The original one was too flimsy to pass tech inspection, and to street for that matter. MAy change the design as one with a curved rear will not allow for chain adjusting. A straight blade with small sides may be better.

Here tis: L & R

You can see the locator lug is gone so you can spin what's left all the way to the ORing. Set the front vanes to vertical, horizontal or wherever, hit it with a wrenc for 1/4 to 1/2 turn and be done.

Thanks, I bot the filter housing second hand from a forum member, I think Carpy's current one loks different, maybe not.

I try to keep the title current with what's going on this week or so. May not make the drags this year, only one more day possible before they close for the winter. Then it wiill be Apriil and we'd be ready.

Oh yeah, after al the cold starts with choke, and the sloppy on off miles, I finally pulled a plug for curiosity sake. It was a nice creamy tan color, dry. We haven't got to redline yet, but it sure feels fine.  :D

The local night is Wednesday. The 8th we'll miss cause I don't have enough miles on it. Weather permits, next weekend, we'll continue break in. Wednesday the 15th is our target. The final date is Wednesday the 22nd. But I'll be out of town with wifer on R&R. So, the 15th is it.

That would be great, but I don't have the travel budget.   :D

My local friend Rick Dorfmeyer has hundreds of roadrace starts under his belt, and he said he'd give it a go. No actual drag strip experience, but not afraid to get on it.

Yeah I think he remembers. He and I roadraced there back in the 70s. When it was Indpls Raceway Park and WERA raced there.  In some of my pictures you can see where the last turn from the road course merges in to the dragstrip, on the other side, that doubles as the straightaway for the road course. At the end you turn left to exit the drags, turn right to continue the road course.

I'll remind him.   ;)

Got the new chainguard from Saldana, looking good. I asked for one like FunJimmy's, which is really sweet. He said sure, but what I got had been personalized to where it doesn't look like FJs. But the business end is flat and long. Pic coming.  Thicker material. Good for tech inspection at the drag strip, this year or next.

Fine with me. Can't be too picky about design when you've got someone working for you that can do it.

Reworked the muffler/centerstand stop brckt.

Worked up the oil cooler brckt.

What I wanted out of a chainguard was: 1. a modest profile, as though it weren't here, 2. coverage for oil fling off, 3. ability to adjust chain, and 4. enough beef to satisfy the tech inspectors at the strip. The first guard I had satisfied 1 and 2, but failed at 3 and 4. When you have any amount of curve to the tail of the guard, following the sprocket, its going to hinder adjustment.

This ought to do it: made from 1 single piece, cut and bent.

By putting the strengthening bendover on the inside, the profile stays minimal:

The material is about twice as thick as the first one, and with the bend, the length of the blade, its plenty strong.

I'll send it out for polish or chrome later.

So many cafe's / resto-mods are "finished" without a guard, seems like an oversight to me. I don't like chainlube on my gear. Carpy's guard he sells now (fits K2 and up), the blade isn't as wide as the chain, allowing for sneakby. Could be because if it were wider than the chain, and you use a shock with a full length spring, you have to notch the guard to clear the spring. This immediately introduces a weak spot in the guard which will break over time. So he shortcutted it and made it too narrow to be effective.

Mine is notched for the spring clearance and the bendover runs the full length of the blade, reinforcing the area across from the notch.
