Phaedrus isn't just any custom, its hard to describe, but it feels like every little bit on it got dedicated attention. Most stock restos don't go to those lengths  ;)

Thanks. That was part of the theme. If it appears that way, we succeeded!   ;D

Hey Ron,

Been a while since I've been around and you've obviously been quite busy!  I'm still catching up on this thread but it's great to see your bike buttoned up and running down the road.

The attention to detail is obvious at first curbside glance.  Fit and finish are excellent.  You deserve every one of the awards and kudos you've gotten so far.

Ironically we seem to have finished up at about the same time 8)

Like you I have a number of remaining action items, but it's an odd feeling that for the first time in, well, EVER, "fix oil leak" is NOT on the list  ;D

Yeah I'm a windy bstrd.

Glad to have you back!  Got some miles on Phaedrus via Rick the Ghost Rider. Looking forward to more chrome, and escapades. Won't make the VJMC Natl Meet in Pigeon Forge this year. Too big of a time/distance commitment.  Hopefully instead, I'll make some local shows, and RGR will run it at the drags.

Will do. Yes, it's now Lucas Oil Raceway, same lace. They let the locals run on Wednesday night starting late April. Hope to get there late Apr, early May.  I would be real pleased with anything with an 11 handle. Talking with others, if everything lines up, rider is good, gearing is good etc, some think it could be low 11s. I'd be tickled pink.

Farkling and others continue. Had to shop for a new chrome shop since Brown's closed. Settled on http://www.customplatingspecialist.com/  .  Vetting a new plater took many hours. Thanks Honda John. Been prepping parts,, grinding speedo drive to clear nuts, trimmed up tank trim,  fashioned bracket for oil cooler. Discovered it is too low, will work for now. Redo later.

Phaedrus's New Horns:

I know others of you have these too. I just wanted to show them off. First I'd heard them was 25 years ago at a Sport Touring rally in Vevay IN. Guy had an ST1100 and set those off right near where I was sitting. I knew someday I'd have them too.  They're actually a little louder than the video.

Took a while to make that vid, thanks to nephew Jon. Shop should be a little warmer now. Going back out to lash up the oil cooler.

I like the horns Ron!
Thanks, me too. Ought to turn some heads this summer.

So we tried to install the oil cooler. Its a smallish Lockhart unit, in chrome, with a Jagg manual bypass, for cold weather startups and riding. The filter adapter is what threw me. I'd bot it from a forum member years ago. Other than to look at it briefly, I never unwrapped it and barely opened the box, till now. The bolt which holds the adapter to the cases is male on both ends. The adapter I had from Phaedrus I had a special bolt affair, mail on one end, and female on the other to receive the OEM filter bolt.

Screwing the adapter plate into the case with the double male bolt, left me wondering how would I bolt the oil filter cover to this?

I went to eBay looking for an oil cooler adapter, and lo. There was one from CycleX, with the double ended bolt and a spin on/off filter. So that explained it.

So, if I decide to use the finned Carpy OEM like oil filter cover, we'll use the older adapter I have. IF we go with the spinon/off, we'll get one of those, chrome of course.   ;D

They are relatively light. Coincidentally, I jsut bought a digitals scale, haven'y even unpacked it yet. Once  I do I'll let you know.

When I bot them years ago, I got 2 pairs, one for Phaedrus and one for my FJR. Since the FJR is no more, that second pair may be for sale.

They are hi and low tones to make the blended chord.

hey man, if they weigh less than the 77/78f dual horn set up, I might be interested...they look and sound great.

My guess would be yes lighter. But at the cost of less quality, more plastic, etc. We'll see.

If the horn were slightly less visible on the stock mount, I would swap out the standard horn for one of these nautilus style ones -- much more effective at saying, "Hey, look out!!"

Got 3rd out of 3 in the BOTM drawing. I'm crushed but I'll get over it.  Couple of very nice originals. Customs are an acquired taste, sometimes acquired in the 70s.  ;)

Back to work, sort of. It snowed big time today, traffic was restricted, so we called off shop day. I did get out and straighten thigns up.  Set up my new digital scale.

stock rods:

vs the big bolt rods I bot from Bill B

Only a gram heavier.   They go in the "parts for Free Bird" box

Seems my cleanup of my oil pump was not successful, as far as fixing the proclivity to wet sump. So I ordered a kit from Elan.

One of the coldest Febs in history, can't last.

Ron, curious if you could tell me how much those Stegler horns weigh?

They weigh 249g = .5489lb.

Redo later.

Work getting in the way of updates. But we're still putting in the time.
Don't forget to vote for Bike of the Month.   :D

Brown's closed?
Huh?  When did that happen?
Temporary or permanent?
Please elaborate...

David
P.S. Bike looks great, btw...
David- back in the desert SW!

I finally sent some pieces to CustomPlating Spec. Hoping for the best.  In the meantime I bot a replacement Ig switch and fork lock, K1/2 style. OEM Genuine Honda Part.  Did you know they no longer match the tumblers? Takes 2 keys. I'm looking for a NOS set where the tumblers match. Only 1 key.
