No need to buy a reproduction, Justin.  The originals are rare, but you can download a scanned copy (here), print it and place it in a 3-ring binder for reference.
That leads us to the topic of really rare original parts, and the plethora of really well made reproduction parts. For another time.

I've been really swamped at work, while contesting a loss of energy due to neuropathy. But we were back at it today. Finally got the oil cooler mounted the way we want. Also, opened and drooled on the chrome. A few issues, but they won't show, and what was a "chrome bike" is that much more chrome now.

A real luxury, we've been chroming the ends of the axles, nuts, etc that show.

Forgot to snap the fender, they did a nice job on it.

More tomorrow.

After assy the oil pump, I see that by pulling on the gear there is free play in the shaft. IS that right?

Pulled out:

The plusses of not riding: what I save on event fees, consumables, etc. I can plow back into chrome.   ;)   :D   :D

That play in the oil pump is normal, I had that exact same question when I put mine back together and torqued it all down. I had my untouched K3 pump to compare it with, they both had the same amount of play.

Thanks for the reply. I had a separate thread on the issue. Many replies indicating that's normal.

So we assembled the pump, put it in an oil bath to prime it, offerred it to the bottom of the engine. We oriented the runout in the shaft to the inside f the pump and it clicked easily into place, gears meshing.

Reinstalled the header, always a pain but getting easier. The new motor mount with chrome and chamferred holes, always a delight. Holes sort of draw the theme of holes from the rotors, Joker dimples and holes in the sprocket guard.

The pipe mount has a small tab to act as the C stand stopper.

After many minutes to locate the hardware, we got the chain guard on. Also a delight. There is no angle that really shows it well, which is the minimalist view I wanted. Still has a right angle bend running the length of it, giving it quite a bit more strength than just a strap of aluminum would have.  The whole is cut from a single piece of aluminum. The chamferred holes give the chrome depth.

The idle adjuster screw for the Mikunis. No one else will ever see it, but Bruce and I know its there.   ;)

Next to tackle is the front fender and brakes.

Thanks, it looks good to me too!

I hope I don't disappoint. Been struggling health wise. But I'll try to wrap it up this evening and tomorrow.

Forecast is for rain and if its too bad, I'd rather spend the time in the shop.  :-\  :-\

Had I not experienced Browns already, I'd say they were fine. The quality is there. customplatingspecialists.com The turnaround was about 8 weeks, v Brown's at less than 3 weeks. That was for 4 different lots, so no fluke.  The return shipping package was sub-par. But the individual pieces were well wrapped and survived the collapse of the box.   :(

Ill try some others next time. There's one about 80 miles from here in the cornfields.  http://www.jpcustomplating.com/

"Back in the day...", I've ridden in some pretty nasty storms. Downpours, ice, near floods. Makes me feel the wimp, to fear a shower.

Hope you get decent weather for your Maine trip, sounds like a blast. Linda and I took several trips, longest one 8 days. Your Guzzi should be just the thing!

Cut and matched some hardware for the muffler and chainguard. Reglued the trim strip on the tank. The original gum adhesive was giving up.  Used clear RTV adhesive, ought to hold.

Pulled the front wheel (again) which is not easy as the brakes foul it. Have to remember to let the air out. Pulled the nasty axle to replace with the chrome axle and nut. I was concerned that the chrome on the axle would be too thick for the bearings. The old axle came out easily. The new one went half way in by hand and all the way with a tap hammer. Shoulld be OK. rRobably could have got it in with palm of my hand strikes, but I bruise too easily for that anymore. Only slight bits of the axle chrome shows, the ends, the hex, but that makes a difference.

Put 3 qts oil in the tank. Will measure closely to see if Elan's new pump valve holds.  :D

2015 restart soon.   ;D

Well. we put the wheel on. then realized can't put the fender on with the wheel on. The bolts attaching it to the fork brace come in from the bottom. So off it comes. Fender goes on then the wheel. Didn't get to the brakes.

Cool Ron. My Mom is mum about issues she has but learned she is starting to suffer from your same Rein-whatever it is called.  Issues with cold and pain and circulation.  She's had a L knee replacement in March then a fall obliterated the right rotator cuff (it had previously been damaged the Dr said.) She's terrible about ignoring pain and pushing on, very strong willed and determination in my Mom. In the fall on the steps she also herniated a disc very badly that has her confined to her lift recliner day & night as she can't sleep in bed without muscle spasms.  Moving wrong brings them and they are excruciating. I am thd massage provider to get them in the back to calm down but can't risk making the pain in the leg worse because the herniated area is applying pressure on the sciatic nerve cluster into the leg. Son just have to do massage of leg, feet and other areas to relax her and let the ice do its thing.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, its a #$%* getting old. Its Raynaud's disease/phenomenon. It was thouhgt that's what II had, but after time proved otherwise, I was tested and diagnosed with non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Loss of control, feeling, (incl hot and cold) and strength in hands and feet. Since balance comes from feet and ankles, it results in loss of balance, too. Extends to difficulty walking.  I may have a compression in the spine also as I have dropfoot, which may be from the neuropathy, but also more common in the sciatic nerves you mention.  Walk with a cane.

Great that you can care for her, my wife and my chiropractor give me the most relief and understanding.

Still making the 3 hours in the shop every week, just moving slower.   :D  Got some goals I'd like to hit.

Thanks for that. It does have a flat washer under the Allen, but hard to see. I may change to a fender washer on your cue. I think I have a chrome one laying around.   ;)

We got our 3 hours in last week, I just failed to write an update. Mostly just going over it, knonking out cobwebs, shining hardware, getting brakes re-installed, fender hardware, details.

This Sunday we did more of same. Refurbished some hardware on the rack. One of the "locking devices" had vibrated loose and was lost. I ordered new ones from Ventura which they sent. I'm surprised more of you don't use Ventura for their rack/luggage systems. They are neat. While talking to the US distributor, he said we'ld be surprised what old bikes they make racks for.
http://www.ventura-mca.com/
I won't get to use mine, cuz I can't ride,  but it was part of the theme that it would be a useful, streetable, tourable build, and so the rack. When I was riding I used such a system on my Hawk GT. I carried tons of stuff.

Foreground is locking device, knurled head screw with knurled jam nut. Designed for a hand or short peg for tightening.  Background is our 6mm Allen with nylock jam nut, something you can sink a wrench into. That should resist any further loosening.

We did some pre-flight, nothing exciting. Checked the oil final time and fired it up. It starts so easy, even after sitting for 6+ months. Took about 10-15 secs to register on the gauge, another 20-30 for it to spit out the #1 and #4 exhaust tappet inspection holes. Engine was completely dry, except I had primed the oil pump. NO SMOKE, clear air!  Ran it for about 4 minutes with a fan on it. Now its time to call in the rider. If Rick's not available next weekend, maybe Ed (the Phoenix) forum member, friend of the shop can have a go at another 30 miles or so. Then the Dyno.

Ron,

I have dealt with the peripheral neuropathy this winter from compression in my neck/shoulders.  It put me on muscle relaxers to help.  It provided some minor relief.  The hands have finally restored sensation in the fingers but the bottom of my feet still has numbness in several areas.  It sucks.

It really sucks you can not ride and enjoy Phaedrus now she's finished.
Thanks for the great thread and updates and sources for the bling.
You really need to capture the thread so if the site loses data you have a copy of everything.

Hang in there and enjoy her as much as you can.  I hope you might be able to ride again and your neuropathy damage is reversible.

Thanks David: More people have PN than one might know. It doesn't show itself outwardly, unless it really gets bad, but then sufferers tend to just avoid going out. Its often tempting but I try to stay involved. Muscle relaxer/narcotics don't have good effect against nerve pain, little does. Mine is idiopathic meaning they don't know why I have it. When its cause is known, like an injury or compression, or diabetes, its easier to treat.

When I get the Dyno runs and the Drag time slips, I'll feel more like I'm there. Always wanted to do a Dyno run. It runs so good now, I'll be curious what and how it could improve. I want to take the carbs off and get them cleaned and polished. That would be a good time to tweak the tuning.

Maybe then I'll get someone to take it for a real ride and document it. (Andy?  ;)

How would one "capture the thread"?

not really sure why there are not multiple SOHC4 members clamoring outside your door as we speak...looking for a ride... ;D   ...it's a dirty job, but somebody has got to do it!

There are. I'm really paranoid about letting anyone ride it for my pleasure as they might get hurt on it, and I wouldn't take that well. I can't help fretting over something I may have left undone, or did poorly, and it breaks or seizes or whatever and someone gets hurt.

I don't really care about it to much as far as accidents or braking it, just another page in the book that is Phaedrus. But I'd hate for a person to get hurt.

Sure is pretty though, IIDSSMS.   :D   IYLTKOT

Ron, they aren't sure why I had the neuropathy I knew for the hands but not tge feet.  I had tested as pre-diabetic in December but they haven't checked my A1C1 since. I have dropped over 50 pounds since before Christmas.  Shouldn't have had that weight to lose, but woulda, shoulda, coulda...
Anyway,  I have had some unexplained pain in the feet but they chalked it up to diabetic neuropathy damage.  Since I don't currently have insurance they aren't chasing it down.  I have nerve damage from several ankle injuries and it wasn't like that.

My Mom has what was thought to be a herniated disk,  but it may not be and the surgery is too complicated for local surgeons,  so earliest Vanderbilt Medical center surgeons she is referred to can handle her case is June 29. Unless something changes she will be making the trip there for diagnostic tests and surgery.  She has intermittently dealing with pain sitting so it is progressively getting worse.
