Ha ha, yep, it'll probably run way better with 4 functioning carbs! This thread reminds me of what the nurse told me when I was in hospital for prostate surgery last month, "The first casualty of prostate surgery is your dignity......." Good job Ron and Joe, I'm glad you got it sorted! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'm just there for fresh eyes and fun  8) Bruce and Ron have done all the work...I'm just freeloading and enjoying the benefits of their tidy shop and purple paint jobs  ;D

In reality Ron, I'm secretly trying to delay your dyno run till I can get my shop finished and haul the hot rod in with Phaedrus  :P

The mutual gratitude society!

While you're gone, I will attempt to polish front to rear, check tightness of bolts and nuts, check the ignition timing, attach all covers, check that centerstand hitting the muffler, etc.  We'll go over everything again when you get back.

As far as going to the Ducati Dyno, my trailer is one rail. But we can make two trips, or if the weather is good, you can ride one or the other.

Follow up: We checked the point gap and the static timing. They were spot on from the last time I checked them. One may ask why still points, not electronic? I'm sold on HondaMan's transistor booster. Installs easily, works wonderfully. Engine starts without delay, so cool.

On to the miserable turn signals. They flash when they want to. The puny screw that holds the socket in suspense inside of the housing, is too small to really do its job. And when it is tight, the bulb fits so loosely in the socket that it still intermittent flash due to poor ground.  I think I'll op for some OEM quality, but with a semi-bullet look, like from a Suzuki of that era.

+3 for points! :)
Points is one of the nice old details that makes these bikes to be something special. It has became a challenge for me to get it to work  fine. I have found the issues to fix and how to set it up.
Hondachopper has two descriptions about what to do and how.  http://www.hondachopper.com/garage/garage.html
http://www.hondachopper.com/garage/carb_info/timing/timing1.html
Improvements: https://www.motorcycleproject.com/text/sohcign.html

A SOHC thread about setting the gap equally for a smooth running idle and avoid carb synch when ignition make engine to run uneven.
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=147444.0

Check real TDC, T vs case mark which is more important for ignition than cam that can differ a few degrees, ignition not. Very visible on low throttle lift, taking off.
I have verified 2 cranks and 2 advancers. Advancer set at the max counterclockwise position of its play make it correct.

EDIT: This work fine for cam timing, not ignition. Let it sit max clockwise and retard the ignition a little due to the play of advancer. 2-3 mm later is my experience. I stamped alternative case marking 3mm later when timing the cam using a piston stop before the rockers were mounted.

Hey PeWe....we did indeed get true TDC with proper stop tool that Ron had in his magic tool collection.  I'd also like to say thanks again for your previous documentation on cam timing numbers as it helped us understand the mechanics and results better.

Ron...whatever you do keep those signals low profile  8)

Fingers crossed we'll have an indian summer in January so that engine can get broken in  ;D

Here an inspiration pic from the Glenn Curtis museum to get thinking about the CB77 ;) I know it’s a scrambler...but close enough

1. Cleaned up the shop, scrubbed the floors with oil dri, etc.
2. Fired it up and listened to those pipes. They are reminiscent of the old Chris-Craft mahogany boat gurgle. Not another 4-1, though the 4-1 may yield more power, I'm into what I like.
3. Compression check yielded 180 psi straight across. The new C7 cam has more overlap than what we were running and less chance to build up pressure. Still I think 180 is good for an engine with 5 minutes on it.

Bot some more substantial turn sigs. The ones I had were just too puny. The ground screws would shake out, they wouldn't stay tight to the makeshift mounts. The new ones are more robust without being K2+ size.

Happy New Year!

Thanks to Joe for taking it on its spin.

Thanks for eveyone's comments.

Now, to get down to tacks. NO smoke, and apparently no top end leaks. It has a driip coming off the ignition wire underneath, should be fixable. The rear brake is really acting up. It was red hot when Joe got back from his ride. But, it didn't inhibit its ability to roll when we pushed it around. Odd. I've got some ideas, but have to delve into them.

One turn signal isn't working. The new signals had about 18' each of extra lead. Cramming all that wire in the bucket with the relays, I think caused something to come unplugged, no prob.  I'll trim off the excess leads and try again.

Limited update:
Weather related sniffles stifled us getting together, I didn't want to be exposed to potential cold bugs and called it off. But, when I went out to the shop to turn off the heaters, the space was so warmed up, I hated to waste it. So, I pulled the headlight ring and lens exposing the hated bird's nest of wire. As I thought 1 of the ground wires had come unplugged as we wrestled it in, causing its light to not work.

I trimmed 10 inches off the lead of each of the front signals. Replaced the undersized bullet connectors which weren't official Honda size and fit loosely. Plugging them in made a positive fit, the lens went back in the bucket with about 1/2 of the grunting and groaning normally required.

Then, I took a look at the beautiful titanium flange nuts I received and installed the 8mm drilled ones on the bottoms of the fork legs. Held off on wiring them secure until later. Had to get back in the house.and get a jump start on next weeks work load.

The purple ones are flanged with Nyloc but aren't drilled. They are for sprocket nuts. I talked to the vender and they said its common for sprocket nuts to not be drilled, in favor of Nyloc. So demonstrated on their website.

The gold ones look #$%*in on the forks, but don't show well in the picture.

That is a clean headlight bucket!
Press the spaghetti inwards away from the center for the bulb, push the reflector into its position, find the screw holes. Test and sniff for burning wires. Forget it and ride  8). I had to reallocate the 3 relays to the outside when using LED H4. 1 relay for Lo, 1 for Hi and no 3 for switching off parking when LO is used.
Using aftermarket bullet plugs need more space too.

The bucket is a chrome replacement for a Kawasaki, I bot from a little place in Indy called Cycle Recycle. Its a little different than a CB750, but not much. It hasn't seen much road time or otherwise exposed to the elements.

That's how I usually stuff it, its amazing it all fits. I've still got  the relays inside.

My aftermarket bullets are exactly OEM size. Got them from that electrical place everyone goes on about.
