Yes, we had an absolutely wonderful vacation (I'd say "fabulous" but that carries baggage.) In Freeport Maine, we rented a house for 10 days on a river, which is actually just an extension of Portland Bay. Its not called that but I can't remember the name.  Its been a while since we went somewhere just to go with no other reason in mind, no family or friends. ATA bumped me on business flight last year and gave me 2 free rd trip tickets to anywhere they fly. So Maine was it.

I've posted this idea before, stole it from someone else here and I'm liking it more and more. I'd have Phaedrus scripted in about where the HONDA should be. Base color Plum Crazy Purple (old Mopar color) in metal flake. Flames in gold leaf or just gold paint. Highlight pinstripes in orange, red or such. Gold gas cap and trim.

Got a good session in today, sorry no pics. Had to spend some time getting the FJR ready for some romps before the season is over. I replaced the front brakes, installed speedbleeders earlier, and finished the bleeding today. Took a warm up ride then changed the oil. Then we got on Phaedrus.

Drilled the clutch hub for the extra lubrication per HondaMan. Should result in a freer operating clutch. Spent an hour + finishing the valve cover. Sanding scratches and polishing, think i got it where i can live with it.  Now I'm trying to get that black rouge residue out of the nooks and crannies and it goesn't want to give with hot soapy water and stiff nylon brush. Suggestions.

I'd said weeks ago, we got the front brake bled and it had a great feel with the mystery master cylinder (Probably from a 500 Hurricane.) Then it leaked out all over the floor over the night. So I bot fresh crush washers, installed and today went on bleeding. It just didn't want to pump up, but with the combo of the MiteyVac and positiong the caliper high we finally got it firm.

I did a bunch of other piddly stuff, soda blasted some parts, alt rotor, starter gear, etc. They've been laying around so long picked up a little rust. Hope to get some real time in the next 10 days, as the last 2 weekends in July are for FJR trips.

Good but short session today. MIL had 90th Birthday party.

Goin nuts with speedbleeders, love em!  Put em on all 3 places of FJR and finished Bleeding. Since we had all the bleeding paraphernalia out... Got the wrong size SB for the clutch, bled it regular way. Replaced the 4Way flasher switch which had mysteriously puked. Now ready for some quick trips till the snow flies. Hope to get the Hoosier SOHC4 crew together for another Fall ride like last year. If Phaedrus isn't running I'll go on the FJR. Love that bike.  Sans bags.

Ordered and got a SpeedBleeder from Spiegler for Phaedrus. Swapped out the stainless bleeder from Yamiya with the SB also in polished stainless. Finished the bleed and remounted the caliper to the leg. I know its getting old, been working on the brake for weeks, but it fought me the whole way, leaks, fit, stuck air bubbles. Actually pumped the fork. Felt a little like coming alive.

The speedbleeders have a little more length to them, especially at the end that holds the hose. This is good keeps the hose in plae a lot more for the bleed.
http://spieglerusa.com/brakes/speed-bleeder.html
The "Find your bike" doesn't go back to our bikes. But if you scroll down to the generic list, its a SB10125 for the early calipers. I think the later calipers are smaller. I just called them and they mailed me all I bot for $2.00 S&H. The local accessory shop told me they were on backorder. Hah! That's why I hate the brick and mortar shops.
Compare lever travel. Relaxed.

Pulled. Great feel.

Cleaned up all the bleeding stuff, rags, hoses, mitey vac, glad to have that chore done.
Had to quit for party. No update next week, riding to the Ohio River for 2 nights. Hope to get some work done before leaving.

Thanks for reading. Like I said the SB10125 (10mm x 125 thread pitch) is only good for the early CB750s. I think the later ones and the 500/550 crowd probably had the 8x125 or such.  Makes bleeding a cinch, especially once the system is at least partially full.

With an empty system you have to go thru the contortions like I did to get the air bubbles out.

Yeah, it was the pin stripes that caught my attention, nice old school touch.  I also liked how there is a parallel space, where you could put 'Phaedrus'.

I love that bike... the FJR is on my wish list for the future.  That and a Sidecar for the Triumph :)

Looking good BTW.... a ride later this summer sounds great... Rose and I need to get better warm weather gear though.  We just came back from our Canada trip and this 90+ degree humid weather sucks.

Cheers, Joe

CBJoe: I'm going to Magnet IN on Ohio River this weekend. If its a good ride maybe we'll do it as a group. Going to Madison IN next week, I know the riding is good between there and Vevay, maybe we'll try that. It's a bit further than last year though, maybe we should stay closer to home.

In the meantime i bot a pair of grips off eBay for 1ยข + 9.99 S&H. I wanted something trimmed in Gold, may have found it.

Received the grips, quick trip from China.  A bit more brassy than gold, but should be OK. Easy to change later if I fell the need. The entire grip is actually a gel rubber. The metal shells are slipped over them, and seem to be pretty comfortable.

I'll be heading out to Madison IN tomorrow on the FJR for the weekend, so no update. Meet up with my club MSTA: Motorcycle Sport Touring Assoc.
http://www.ridemsta.com/
Probably about 60 will show for this regional event. We ride the curvy's of the Ohio River Valley in groups of 2 to 5 or so and meet back at the hotel for festivities. Last weekend and this weekend riding refreshes my desire to finish Phaedrus. Maybe the Hoosiers here should join up MSTA and create the SOHC wing of the indiana Squadron? The MSTA here rides every Sunday, and regionals are held every month.

Here's my grip in the meantime:

Grips, thanks, way too much time shopping..

The Indiana Sundays started from the Morgantown Country Kitchen. Closer to you than me.  Usually 15 to 20 would show up. After breakfast, they'd split into smaller groups of 2-5 and head down 135, etc. depending on who wants to go where and when.  MCK is closing so they'll be looking for a new location.

Packing and heading out soon.   :D

One of the best pin striper/custom painters anywhere lives in the Muncie area, At the time being he is teaching classes at Lincoln tech in Indy.

he also shows up at local Harley events and car shows to put on demo's and stripe stuff.

He has a facebook with lots of pics, his name is Loyd Johnson

Yeah what Rafster said. I was searching eBay for "gold motorcycle grips". What i really wanted is a gel grip I've seen around that has colored accents in it, like red, blue, yellow, but no gold. So these came up and I thought what the heck I'd lke to see how they are made whether i use them or not. Starting bid was $.01, So I bid $2.50, it went in as $.01 and no one else bid. Came from China in 7 days, immediate response and shipping. They also list them at Buy it Now for $9.99, still a fair price.

I've been wondering about these semi-metal grips. These are actually a full length gel rubber grip. The metal is a very thin pop on part. You could peel the metal off and still have a nice black grip, though it has mold marks in it to hold the metal dressy part. If they turn out too gawdy or otherwise unsuitable Easy to change. And gawdy doesn't scare me, its the 70s after all.

Way too much time and effort into shopping for grips, especially with all else I have to do. But after everything I've been thru I'm just taking each step one at a time and doing it the way i want, which is in keeping with the original goal of this build. Though its taking a longer time than expected.   I just didn't know there would be so many steps.

Another option would be solid black grips with some Gold bar end weights I've seen on eBay.

So I'm back from a ride in and around Madison IN. account in Open Forum to follow. as it was on my FJR.

Great Ride, only thing better might have been if it was on Phaedus.

Hoosiers and SW Buckeyes. I'm planning a mid-September 2nd Annual SOHC Hoosier Fall Ride iin SE Indiana between Madison, Versailles, and Cinncy. Great Roads, not too far away.
I'll start a road trip thread in mid-August for planning purposes. Very outside chance Phaedrus could make it. But I'll go regardless, on the FJR if need be.

Looks like you had a good time on your ride.  I love Madison (and Clifty Falls), but haven't done any riding down that way.

So glad to hear that a Hoosier ride is in the works.  Something to look forward to!
