Well at least the MC is off the list of possible issues.  It could very well have been one of the old lines collapsing inside the SS braid, and the tilted caliper wouldn't have helped.
You know I kinda fall into this feeling that SS Braid is forever, but the insides of the rubber lines fail. i suppose the insides of the SS do to. Anyway, got to eliminate the variables.

Here's the waffle in the MC. WTF is that?

That is basically identical to the brake and clutch MC on my VFR....waffles and all.  Not sure what they're for.  Something to aid in the casting process maybe?  ???

More than I thought I would.  Had alot of saddle time this summer to get to know her and we're getting along well.   ;)

Need to work on the front end this winter....leaky fork seals and overly-soft front suspension in general.  From what I understand, they were pretty soft in the front to begin with.  Even so, she's lots of fun to ride.  That whirring gear sound is most addicting.   ;D

Speed Warrior, the blue cafe.  However, I just checked the Aus Post tracking, and the part was only 'forwarded to destination', on the 1st.  Of course that's still one day ahead, but looking doubtful for having it this weekend.

I'm leaning toward the waffles aiding in slowing 'slosh' up the curved surface.

I think it is a imprint of a screen in the positive die, designed the control the flow of metal and prohibit the flow of drose or impure aluminum into the piece being cast.

....or maybe not?

Hey MCRider...  Marshall pipes have shown up on ebay (at least I just noticed it) from a seller that I think is in the PacNW...
Price isn't bad when compared to what a new set of stock 4-into-4 pipes run on ebay...
The Marshall pipes for the CB550 are priced around $500 while the price I'm seeing most of the time for new 4-into-4s is around $900.

That waffle, or screen pattern is there to catch sediment, it's not very effective, but I have found particles in them.

Humm.....interesting explanation for the 'waffles'.  I would it only be effective though when the bike was parked on the side stand.

Interesting. Marshall DeepTone/Laser is a going concern with a full line of pipes for all modern bikes. Its only the CB750K SOHC (mine) that's been discontinued though it may come back on stream anytime. I don't think they have a llot of presence in US, mostly Europe.

So all this talk of VF's got me thinking, as I liked the one I had as a shop bike in 83.  Put an offer in on an 85 750 Interceptor. ::)  May have a bike for that ride after all Ron. ;) ;D ;D

Be very, very careful of the early VF's Brian, they were terrible bikes with lots of mechanical gremlins. The later VFR's were superb bikes, but I wouldn't own a VF750/1000, even if it was given to me........... Cheers, Terry.  ;)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So. we got it plumbed with the new Goodridge lines. I went back to the original MC. So the lines and the caliper alignment are the changes. It is resisiting bleeding out, but what's new? I'll get it and then well see if the pads retract. If not I'll attack the MC ports. These adjustable padded pliars were handy for holding the line while tightening the fittings. They self adjust as you squeeze.

One correction on a post i made. I speculated that the oil pressure switch line was white. From memory, I remembered white, but that was the shroud on the wire. Pull it back and its blue with a red stripe. Sue me.  ;)

In the meantime, assembling the alternator. It reminds me that every single system on this bike was dismantled to the last nut and bolt, some 10 to 15 years ago. Finding each piece, getting reacquainted with it, deciding to use it or toss it for new or improved is a joy and a hassle. The cover needed some freshing on the polish wheel, the Stator is a new to me unit from eBay, looks real newish. Cleaned the connectors and treated with di-elecrtic grease.

Tip for brake bleeding hose. Stuff the ends with QTips and store in ziplock bag.

Scored a set of exhaust clamps from scottly. We push on.

Well aware of the cam issue, it was poor heat treated cam lobs.  The 83 'shop bike' got got replacements.  The other big issue with them is the charging system, stators, & regulators.

The 83/84's are the ones to be careful of, and ask lots of questions about.  By 85 the problems had been resolved, but by then the damage was done to the bike's reputation.  Going to see it on Wednesday, but 1st choice is to get miles on the 550.

I'm starting to get impatient to see Phaedrus II's engine come together..

+1 on that!

Good point about the finish on the ports as well; not that I'm an old pro here but I see differing schools of thought on this and am curious about more experienced viewpoints such as yours... and MCRider's .

Honda did a study on polishing ports and found out that a port that was unpolished help to make the mixture more turbulent and atomized than a polished port.
They had a 3 million dollar dyno at that time.

That's very true Ron, one Aussie drag racer (Peter "Porky" Allen, no relation to the dude who was married to Liza Minelli and had a thing for Rio) actually bead blasted his ports for that reason, and he won lots of races, so I guess he knew what he was doing! Cheers, Terry. ;D
