I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Hino, once again you hit it out of the park!  I should have that on my tank rather than the wolf's head!  8)

Today's shop time very interesting. First did an oil change. Gotta admit, more grit in the oil filter cover than I would've liked. But little in the filter. Let's hope it was start up debris, a little plastic beads undoubtedly,  :(

While we're at it, there was a thread we discussed the washer in the oil filter that always gets lost. Here is why:

The silver looks for all the world like part of the cart. And as such, being stuck to the rubber grommet, it gets thrown out with the used cart.

But in reality, the silver is a washer that needs to be retained and used again. Not the end of the world, but I'll bet 1/2 of all CB750s have lost this washer and 99% of people that learn about it want it back.


So I've had this bad feeling that after all we've been through getting a tank to work, with a left side petcock, I'd realized that we hadn't really tested this one for its ability to hold gas. We had sent it out to be professionally treated and guaranteed it would hold gas. Still not first hand knowledge so here it is outdoors on the sawhorses with a gallon of gas in it.

Afrter an hour we were convinced. While waiting we put together the fuel line. From the carb to the tank, we needed a reducer, which I'd found some weeks ago at a hardware.

So we've got a short piece of clear coming out of the carb. We can clearly see fuel flowing.

Then the reducer, then clear braid to the pet cock.

Upon re start, alls working well, no fuel leaks, pressure jumps to nearly 80PSI! on the Joker gauge. Tach works fine, proof of sorts:

With the tank in place for the first time, I can say the valvetrain noise was quiet and pleasant.

Problems: May have an alternator cover leak. Not confirmed yet.

Had several rt front rocker box screws loose, causing a stealth leak and a big mess in the fins. may have it all cleaned up, leaks on floor may be residual from this. Or may be something worse.  >:(

The Henry Abe tappet covers continue to perplex. Why would anyone design a tappet cover that simply won't work with a stock tank, or a stock frame? Not so enamored now with legacy of HA. Besides having to sub OEM for the IN on 1 and 4, seemed 2 and 3 won't come off without hitting the frame tubes! If i didn't have an APE frame rail removal kit i'd be screwed right now. Can't get them off to adjust the valves!

I'm totally pissed, for something so simple. I'll use OEM for now and talk to joker about their offering which like all their stuff is way cool. May not be period but I may be over that now.


So shooting for vid and riding around July 4th.

It's a shame those HA valve inspection covers don't fit, I wonder if they were meant for choppers with lots of space around the top of the engine? They do look cool though, they remind me of my old "Taipan" 2.5cc model aeroplane engine's top end. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'm still learning about the pathways of the oiling system and just recently realize that the spring, going in first, creates the pathway for the oil bypass should the filter become restricted.

As to the caps, yes that must be it, a chopper frame would provide the clearance. Sure wasn't any such notice on the packaging though.  I'll sell them with the proper disclosure.

Good questions: On the first phaedrus, the lines ran underneath as there were two, as the rt side petcock had 2 spigots. There is only one feed inlet on the VMs. It spins around 180deg+ to point up or down. So there was a T in the line as well as the reducer. Mess, but it worked. One of the advantages of the left side petcock, besides being where a petcock should be, is the single spigot petcock, reducing the amts of fuel line that had to fill.

As to your question we tried every way we could to run the lines in an intuitive gravity acknowledging way. There simply is not enough cutouts in the VM Smoothbore rack to allow the line to go above and make the bend into the petcock that would be needed. By running underneath, its one gentle curve right up into the petcock. The carbs filled right away, as they always did before, even though the loop goes below. Of course if we think of it, as long as the level in the tank is above the level in the float bowls they would always fill. Just doesn't look right at first glance. BTW: I've since shortened the line so it doesn't touch the starter cover.

The tach is a brand new OEM a very good deceased friend gave me, still in the box. These go for as high as $750 on eBay, in new condition, so I'm very lucky. The speedo is going to Foreign Speedo to be re-calibrated to the 18" wheel. At that time (this winter) I'll send it with the tach and have matching K0 faceplates installed,with a 8500 rpm redline. And the speedo won't have that idiot 70mph red line. I bot them from LeCram. My problem is the cover on the speedo is showing its age, while the tach cover is pristine. I don't know if For Speedo can renovate the cover to match, or if i should look to getting the chrome covers.

I've practiced opening up some instruments. But since Foreign Speedo needs to recal the speedo i figure I'd just let them crack them open and reseal them their own way. I'm trusting them with the tach, better them than me, i hope.

Those are really, really nice. Too many choices. I'd been leaning towards the offerings from Joker as i already have some of their parts. For expediency sake, I'll scrub up some stockers and defer any purchases to winter.

Nope, started it for a few minutes. Pushed it out into the sunshine for another beauty pageant shot.




I printed out the "Phaedrus" in a font I liked, Calibri, and told the painter do it like that as close as you can. I figured it would be pinstriped or airbrushed. Somehow he lifted the image from the paper, and put it on the sidecover and cleared over it. Magic.

Been hotter than Hades in the shop, supposed to col down by Sunday.

I did get the FJR serviced, oil change, pressures, washed off last years bugs, got it ready for some rides.

I've got those CNC caps on my K1, Mike Reick sourced them for me many years ago, and they are nice, for sure. Hey Ron, if you want to do a trade, I've got a nice set of new unused chrome plated stock caps I'd trade you for those HA's? Cheers, Terry. ;D
