There have been many threads here about the dreaded breakage of the lifter plate. I have participated in these threads, and this gives me the chance to confirm my advice.

Hi MC,
I've read most of your clutch posts in the archives, and recently put mine back together... followed your advice, and it all went together very easily.... was expecting great drama with all of the breaking clutch lifter plate stories, but with the pressure plate and hub engaged, the 4 bolts tighten up with no problem.
Thanks! ;D

"Does anyone know what this hole in the hex is for on the back side oil line? They all have them."
Hi can anyone shed any light on your query ?
It looks like a grub screw in the hole with a slot head
I am having problems with the oil line I bought on ebay at the moment
The hex will not turn on the pipe which makes me think there used to be a locking screw in the hole which has snapped off, as all `i have is a hole with what look like remnants of a broken brass pin or screw
I don't really want to drill it out and cause a leak
Any info greatly appreciated
cheers jc

I never got an answer to my question. I have Hessed with several hoses incl the SS ones I am using. The big hex should turn freely and i don't know of any potential that would interfere with that.

I've been half heartedly shopping around for a replacement for the go to FJR which has now went. Proof of the half heartedness is I let my wife borrow the money in the motorcycle fund to buy a new to us 2011 CRZ. She is very happy. She'll pay me back, she's good for it.  ;)

If I get a FJR or NT700 style I'll likely want to go the lowering route. Searching for that I found this:
http://www.soupysperformance.com/homepage.html

Which leads me to this:
http://www.soupysperformance.com/catalog/item/4408900/7420224.htm

Of course they don't have the CB750 in the product list. But a quick email to Soupy, and he mails me back, he might make me one, depending on pictures etc. So i sent several views, we'll see but i think I may finally have the stand problem resolved. (I had a few cut and re welded but they never hit it just right).

Besides, I'll want to use different shocks and tires and an adjustable stand, without removing it, is just what we ordered.  We'll see.

Great find on the kickstand.  I'd love to get rid of the gangster lean on my bike, so here's hoping your charms work on Soupy.
Take care,

I sent him some pictures and he said no problem. Shot me a price I've already paid. He said he could give me 2 inches adjustment shorter in 1/4 inch increments. Way cool "billet".

Cut and weld will work. But i had a few done and never quite got the lean I felt good about. A lot of guys will just bend them to suit but that looks lame to me.

With this, I'll be able to use my short all chrome shocks for show, longer shocks for ridiing, and I expect to use a taller tire later as well. Still, since I dropped from an 18 to a 17 rim size, I need shorter than stock.

Hummm...interesting news MCR.  Given the pivot point and spring P/U are the same for a number of SOHC's your's probably won't be the only one he sells.  I know the stock one on my 550 isn't quite right, what with rim & shock changes.  Looking forward to hearing / seeing how this works out.  Probably should add it to my Xmas list. ;) :)

Well its a little pricey. But I'll see the finished product before i disclose the price. He may think its not enough, or too much, his call. But it is hand made and i love that stuff.

Motivated by another thread on elecrtic vests (do yourself a favor and get one), I wired in the pigtail for mine. One side effect to having the pigtail there is that you can plug in a battery tender without raising the seat.

Its charging now.

Should get it started tomorrow. Test out a few of the things I hope i've sorted in the last few months: oil pump, wet sumping, smoking, leaks, and upon riding it we'll see if the front end is working.

Its had 3 quarts of oil in the tank for a week now and its still in the tank.

Geez, that's a clash of cultures Brian, a USB adapter on a CB750? I hope it doesn't compromise the space/time continuum? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yeah, newer phones can charge at an amp or more draw, see your phone's AC charger output rating to get an idea of how much. So much so that computer makers have modified the USB circuit on newer motherboards to handle these high amp draw devices. The ipods and iPhone were the first I noticed to require over an amp on the cigarette/auxillary power plug to USB adapters.
Lots of GPSes are much more frugal with power draw in the milliamp range.

Ron, what electric vest did you buy? Where did you buy it?

Mine is a Widder. Mr. Widder retired in 2009, it was pretty much a one man show, but his was respected worldwode. I spoke with Mr Widder several times on the phone arranging door prizes for various runs I helped with. He was an odd duck.

Got it as a Valentines Day gift from the good wife in 1995. She got it at the local accesory store Cycle Outfitters.

Widder's website is still up, and there are redirection links that take you to pages that are run by the IronButt Association. They always preferred Widder gear and are helping him sell off the final inventory. There are vests listed but i think many of the sizes are NLA.
http://www.widder.com/
That's the story I've gotten anyway.

Gerbing is now the frontrunner brand I think. I'm sure there are good lesser known brands out there.

Buttoned it up and started it over the weekend. It's been several days since starting and the oil tank is still full. So the wet sumping issue is likely fixed. Should be, it was so obvious the check valve was stuck wide open.

Not enough time to determine if various leaks and the smoking has been rectified. May get to leave work early today and ride it around.

Soupy emailed me and the sidestand is on its way. See post #2556 above.

Started work on horn mounting. Film at 11.  Not a critical issue I know but its got to be done and I've got to do what appeals to me.

Honestly, stepping off the FJR has taken some enthusiasm out of me. So I'll do what comes naturally. It'll all be finished someday.

I bot these mini horns to use instead of some larger Stebel Nautilus horns which were just too big to find a place to mount. These minis will go right below the Hlight clamp:

The shorty bracket will reach the lower clamp bolt:

We dummied up some wires and lit one off. It was pretty loud, made us jump. Loud as a stocker at least. And we'll have 2, with a relay harness supplied by Eastern Beaver providing a significant boost, we hope.

The harness is universal so I'll need to strip out several feet of excess wire, leaving all of the EB connectors and relays in place.

One thing I've always wanted was some horns that could be heard. This might do it.

The original frame horn bracket will be used to mount an oil cooler.

As for your comment about the FJR incident taking some of the enthusiasm out.  After 103 pages (and how many years??), it will be done when it's done.

Good work Ron, I love those chrome Stebel Nautilus horns with the Eastern Beaver harness that you put me on to a couple of years ago, it really makes the installation process simple.

I installed them on my Suzuki GS1000 and they work so well, I'm almost happy when some dopey car driver starts to drift into my lane so I can give them a blast and wake them back up! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks TinTop: Speaking of which, the adjustable sidestand came in today. Film at 11. He made 2 lower legs for me. Pretty trick.

As to how long depends on where you start the clock. I had the rear wheel and head/cyl machining done in 2000. I opened this thread in 2008.   :D

Wow T that's a great install! How wide are they. outboardof the frame? I just couldn't see my way to fitting them in along with a cooler.

G'Day Ron, here's another pic, plenty of room for a cooler, which I might install once it warms up. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Love that bike! That looks like such a logical location for the horns. I think the CB doesn't have that much room in that location or I just didn't visualize it correctly. I'll look next time I'm in the shop.

Think I'll finish up with the mini horns, but I still own the nautiluses and they may go on later.
