Thanks Ron, I love that bike too, I might have to take the poor old thing for a ride today, I've been ignoring it of late. The Nautilus horns are big, so I can understand why you'd rather the smaller ones, but I wanted the decibels to wake up dopey drivers, I'm sick of taking evasive action because idiots in cars can't see anything else on the road but other cars. Let us all know how loud those mini horns are, I wouldn't mind a smaller set on my K1. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You peaked my curiosity so I dummed up the Stebel Nautiluses to the stock harness and the Relay harness. BAM! Those are loud! Very stately, almost yachtlike low tone. I've always heard that dinosaurs communicated over long distances with a low tone. Dummied up the minis as well. They are very shrill, like a scooter horn on steroids. Not very pleasant. My ears rang for several minutes afterwards. So they'll do the job. There just isn't enough open room for the Nautiluses esp with my steering damper on the rt side.


It took a little head scratching to get the relay harness to work. Hooked it up but it would only click. After about 45 minutes of this and that, Bruce looked at the fuse holder, which had the cap left off, and said, is something supposed to be in there? Oops my bad. When I opened the package a few weeks ago, I noticed the fuse wasn't in, and a couple of spade fuses dropped out on the workbench. I said to myself, hmmm I'll have to remember to put the fuse in... Oh well it helps to have extra eyes.

In a closed space like that its hard to tell the difference the relay makes. No relay was loud, as i think both the stebels and the minis are louder than OEM. With the relay it was deafening. Probably more discernible in the open air.  Anyways, minis under the Hlight clamps in the decision.

Next to the sidestand. Here's the selection all together. Soupy made me two legs for the lower part of the adjustable:



Using the long one set at the shortest setting gave an optimal lean. That's with the longer shocks, though still a /70-17 rear tire.


We made some "accessory posts" for the battery. Cut the head of of a 6mm bolt about 10mm longer than stock. Threaded it into the terminal nut, then tightened down the first nut onto the harness cable/ground cable. Then put the accessory cords (heated vest and horn relay, both of which are fused) onto the stud left above the nut, and tightened them down. That way I can futz with the accessories without messing with the main connection. An old trick.

Soupy has quite a business making lowering kits for sportbikes. All the ones around me seem to be of certain ethnic backgorund and are slammed to the ground. But the numbers are virtually all of them. In town anyway. Necessitatiing a shorter sidestand, and adjustable makes it fit many models and adjustable allows for street and strip set ups, longer/shorter struts, etc. It appears the CB750 stand is very similar to other modern bikes he already makes. The spring catch and other details may be different.

We eyeballed the length and popped it on. The bike leans over PERFECT so now I'll feel comfortable taking it for a test ride, soon. Then as time goes on if I go to a taller tire, or shorter shocks, the stand won't be a problem.

As to the Train Horn Bike. I knew it must be something different.  ;)

That one got my attention too!  Was expecting to see a real locomotive..when this wimpy bike rides by LOL! Would really get drivers attention..I'd guess.  Even got me to fantasizing about doing myself..although that's about as far as I got LOL.

We had an abbreviated shop day today owing to my recent retrun from a holiday in Wabash Indiana. A restored award winning Hotel per Goupon. (never pay retail)   :D

Anyway, experiemtned araounid with the minis. Played around with the adjusters to get a nice dual horn sound. Modiified the relay harness, and made the permanent mount. All done, next thing's next.




Not as loud as the previously posted train horns, but they'll do.   :D

Yeah, its pretty sparkly. That's what i was going for. 1970s "if it don't go, chrome it".  ;)  I'm sure its not everyone's cup of tea, but it suits me.

Often it doesn't photograph well because of the flash, or lots of hand prints that haven't been wiped.

I've got a headlight relay from HondaMan to install. Also, it runs fine on the points, but I have HM transistorized booster pack to install. The Alt and shifter cover are leaking and need attention. It needs more shakedown miles but the weather is catching up to me.

Got a call in to my HVAC guy to give me ideas on heating the shop. We've been using a 5000w portable and 1500w portable. They knock the chill off, eventually, but are loud. I'm leaning to a 10000w equivalent infrared unit with remote thermostat. I only have about 365sf, and its all insulated well. But the ceiling is real high 9-13ft, and 2 roll-up doors, 8ft and 4ft.

Yeah electric. I have gas here but to run from the house may be cost prohibitive. HVAC guy was just here and he thinks 10000w elec infrared should suit me, but price??

I'm trying to get away from blowers. Small space and it overcomes the TV/stereo volume. And I'm thinking the infrared will heat the floor a bit more than forced air. And with my feet that's become a problem.

But a forced air gas furnace in your place will really kick I'm sure. I cheaped out to begin with and while it was functional, I'm looking forward to beiing overkill.

Yeah I'm kind of lucky in that the house gas furnace is just on the other side of the garage wall.  Making running a line into the garage space very easy.  Also have a friend who's a licenced gas fitter, so some beers (after ;)), and a little cash and I'm done.  Well there's the cost of the furnace too, but that looks to be reasonable.  Electricity up here is getting very expensive, want to avoid it like the plague.  I figure a central ceiling fan should keep things circulating.  Looked at gas radiant heat but the cost of the units are x3. :(

Trick I learned from mechanics and friends who lived in Akron Ohio area and ran an auto repair shop out of a large pole barn. A 1" thick piece of blue foam will make a big difference than standing on concrete in the winter. Their shop was probably 45-50F at most on a cold winter day near the heater and the heat would be sucked out of your feet. Don't know where they came up with the idea but standing on a section of  1" blue foam insulating sheathing and you could tell the difference pretty quick.
Since the blue foam doesn't hold up for a long time unprotected I would suggest getting a couple of the anti-fatigue quad sections that Harbor Freight or other carry. I use them to make the floor a little less harsh on my knees as I destroyed the PCL in the right knee about 6 years ago and it hurts really really bad to be on that knee on a hard surface. It is slightly improved by the padding but the biggest affect is lack of the concrete from pulling the heat out of my body during the AZ winter @ 4600 ft above sea level. It actually snows here in Southern AZ at our elevation, doesn't usually last a long time but it gets cold for here. (Having lived in Ohio 19 years I know some of what northerners go through...) 

BTW, just a sheet of plywood won't have the same affect the blue foam does...you need that thermal barrier.

It might make the difference where you don't have to use quite as much electricity as you will be more comfortable and your feet will stay warmer as long as you are moving around some to keep the circulation up.

Hi Ron..

We've talked about the heater thing..in years past.  Would only suggest that it makes a big difference..if the heater's located @ floor level versus higher in room (especially with 12 ft' ceilings).  My 30K BTU unit (220 V. 30 amps) warms 100 sq.ft nicely..located on the floor..with 10 ft. ceilings.

Also sending URL to a supplier not far from you (Milwaukee) that has great deals on antii-fatigue mats (thicker ones..1/2" or more)..but work well on concrete floors to keep cold out in winter: http://www.chdist.com/facility-maintenance-products/anti-fatigue-mats-commercial-matting/d-100504-100504-153045

Would simply suggest/remind that as heat rises..especially with high ceilings..the closer the heat source is to working area..the better.  Heat tapes under the matting on floor (as used in nursery's/seed starting greenhouses) can do good things for relatively low cost..

Thanks Dave and Al; I've got some issues I'm trying to satisfy. I have a nice neoprene workmat in front of the bench, but not elsewhere. I'm reluctant to put anything else on the floor as it represents a trip hazard to me. I've developed a hyper sensitivity to cold, which maybe reynaulds syndrome. So for that i wear double wool socks and thick sole shoes. But if the syndrome kick in, there is no internal heat to warm them.  But i also have "polyneuropathy" which is a deadening of the nerves into the lower leg and feet. So I trip on things. And the neurologists can't decide if that's also contributing to the cold hypersensitivity, rather than the Reynaulds. Counter intuitive i know, such is medicine.

So the infrared really intrigues me. It will actually heat the floor, my shoes, the tools, tool box, even the bike itself, without heating the air directly. The air is heated as a side effect of heating everything else.

Add to that the lack of noise which will be nice. Love my tunes.   :D

Try setting up a dehumidifier too. That cold KY/IN winter air chills to the bones bro! I'm now spoiled with the dry Colorado air since I moved from Louisville  ;D It's just terrible today. 20% relative humidity. But then it's ALL relative.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Thanks. But the humidity in winter time is 35%-. we have dehumidifiers in our basement and they stop working at those levels. Can't get it as dry as CO is naturally.

Interesting comments re radiant heater, maybe I'll take a second look.  I've got the same issue (reynaulds) with feet, but worse with my fingers.  Cold tools can be a game stopper.

Interesting comments re radiant heater, maybe I'll take a second look.  I've got the same issue (reynaulds) with feet, but worse with my fingers.  Cold tools can be a game stopper.
You can get a gas fired infrared. Google it, I learned a lot. (I just reread your post and see you've looked at gas fired radiant, 3x$)  THe example they keep giving is the sun on a cold day.  Feels warm on your skin even though the air is cold.

Budgets are such a B. I didn't have it 4 years ago. Now I do. (I hope anyway, shuffle some things around). All things considered, it seems the way for me (elect infrared).

The docs keep wondering why I don't have it in my fingers as that's the most common. But 10% are feet only and that's me. I've read that some sufferers can stick their hand in a freezer to retrieve something and be nearly instantly incapacitated. Hope you're not that bad.

Close...let's put it this way, I love chocolate ice cream, I don't like going to the freezer section of the supermaket to get it.

I have reynaulds syndrome and it really bites.  When I work in the shop during the winter my fingers look like they are dead, with out any circulation, and hurt like a #$%*.  This also make winter riding with out heated gloves nearly impossible. 

Luckily the climate here is pretty mild and my shop is insulated with finished walls so it stays pretty warm.
