Same for my K2, keys don't match. Worse yet, I have three different ones because the seat lock is different too  >:(

If you upgrade the harness to the K3+ style flat blade connector for the ignition, then there are still one key sets avaiable IINM. I did upgrade my harness to the flat blade style (thanks, Hondaman) but it was after I'd already bought the replacement stuff  :(

It is possible to disassemble the fork lock cylinder and swap/alter/omit tumblers to make it match your ignition key.

That was a suggestion from EverettPowersports, the vender from whom I purchased the lockset. I may give it a try.

Yeah, we're still on a loose schedule to dyno and drag in late April. My workload right now is intense.

In the meantime, we're just cleaning up loose ends.

It WILL happen!   :D   :D

In case any one was wondering...
WE've missed one Sunday this month. Still making incremental progress on little things. Box of chrome finaly shipped to CPS, on their schedule for April 18th. Boy we're missing Brown's.  :(

My workload this year's been higher and my energy level lower. That's cutting into posting updates. Still, can't wait for spring!

So I'll post a proper update when I can.   :D

Guzzi or CB?   :D

PS: I did commit to showing Phaedrus at the VJMC tent at this years Rockers Reunion. Its going to be at Fountain Square this year. May 30th.  The VJMC crowd said they were perfectly fine with a custom in their midst, so should be fun.

Sweet Ron!  Rose and I will be there :)  It's her birthday and our kickoff for the Maine Trip.  We may even hit the road that night depending on how things roll.  We're super excited about this year's RR...we love Fountain Square.  It appears they will be closing the roads down and letting us park at the main fountain intersection!

Guzzi it is.....  I loved the CB1100, but the big guy won out :)  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,146152.0.html

I'm actually sort of sad...a guy came on Sunday and hauled away ALL of my CB650's and any extra parts I had left lying around.  So now I'm left with the Triumph, my XS750, and the new Guzzi.  The GS1000 is still in the garage, but a friend of mine is gong to buy it from me and complete a brat build out of it.  Later this year I'm going to look for a K Model CB750 to do a mostly stock restoration on.  Already have the go-ahead from Rose :)

Cheers, Joe

"ghost rider" Rick stopped by. Dropped off a CB750K2 Owners Manual! Forget where he said he found it, but...sweet. Looking forward to Breakin, Dyno Run, and some drags.

Hope to post some updates and pics soon. Get back into it. Work was crushing this year, physical condition didn't help any.   :(

Maybe a box from Custom Plating Specialists will perk things up.   :D

A little catching up, then back on schedule.  Certain pieces were pulled off and sent to Custom Plating Specialists.  Called then for update, said they are on schedule and will work on my job this week.

Getting real frustrated. Been so long since I posted pictures, Photbucket changed its protocols and I can't figure it out.

Anyway, cut a cooler mount out of aluminum sheet with snips, trial and error, took 3 tries. Now have a usable mount and a template for a thicker one later, from the machine shop.

Sad to see some polished parts dulling with time.

Got bench cleared off from months of accumulation of bits and pieces. Everything accounted for, bagged and tagged.

Next should be rebuild of oil pump.

Thanks Mark! I wish I could ride rather than tinker, but we take what we're given. I figure tinkering and showing actually costs less than the riding I used to do, tires, oil, overnight lodging, event fees, etc.,  so I'll just pursue that as much as I can.

I don't think Rick knew what he had when he gave it to me. I see EBay has them for $35 for a really trashed one, to $300 for one slightly better than this. I'll have to tell Rick and settle up.

No tears, fold out wiring diagram still intact, etc.  I see where a 69/70 manual goes for $1000+.

Had a good session Sunday. Update to follow soon.   :D

Sunday Update: Time moved from afternoon to 10A to 1P.  Feels good to be back at it. Besides scoring the Owners Manual above, we finished the cooler mounting bracket, making a final fourth one to suit. We can use it as is for now, and use it as a template for a slightly thicker aluminum one later.

Called Plating Services for update, they're working on it.

Took pipe off (what a pain) and removed oil pump. Happy to say not a fleck of matter in the pan or in the screen after 70 miles + mintues of running. Yay! But all the oil was in the pan, it had wet sumped. A little showed up on homemade dipstick, about 1.5 in in bottom of tank. Leaning left and vertical. That would probably come out from the plug drain, which we'll pull later. Also, tipping the bike to the rt to get that last bit, if so inclined.

Also, pulling the pan plug then reinstalling, then puling the pan shows there is quite a bit of oil left in the pan after pulling the plug. So between the tank, the oil lines and the pan, there is still a cup or so of dirty oil lft behind in an oil change.

Chucked it up in vise to break pressure relief cap off and replace spring. See clean screen. (It was filthy after 5 miles on first engine. Old clutch shredded itself I guess.) New APE clutch intact, and deserved.

Took the new VESSEL Impact with JIS bits to get that last screw out. First two came out with hand held air impact.
Thanks http://www.rrrtoolsolutions.com/rrr-home-trial.html

I bought this pump from EBAY, $75., seller swore it had 7500 miles on it. The rotors are pristine, so I think so, not a scratch. Though I wouldn't be worried if it did, these pumps are overbuilt I think.

New spring on left, old one on rt, tho not so old. So not sure why that much length difference, but I put it in anyway. Get rid of that oil post nasal drip.

Gotta get that pesky seal out and button it back up. NExt time.

PS: There was a thread about the orientatiion of the marks on the rotors. On the little pump side both pointed to enter of pump. On the big pump side, little rotor pointed inside, big rotor mark was outside. Go figure.

Did some futzing around then went for the oil seal in the pump. Following HondaMan's clues to dig out the rubber, then drill in the folded metal of the seal. Didn't have a bit as small as he suggested, used a .04". Drilled several holes. Seemed like we might go through the metal into the pump body, but never did.

Additional suggestion: we used a hair dryer on high for 2 minutes.
Then engaged the tip of a icepick in the holes around the seal band, prying up. Then "ping" it popped out!

The shaft had a lot of something at the point where the seal rides. Could material from the old seal have bonded itself to the shaft? It sure was rough. Come to think of it, the shaft gave a bit of resistance to pulling out.

So we "shoeshined" it with 1200grit wet or dry.

The marking was still visible, but smooth to the touch.

Put the new seal in the freezer. Still hard to drive in, but it did.

Reassembly is next.  Chrome is "almost done" but sure not like the turnaround time at Brown's. sigh.

Last Sunday we did a little bandaid operation. I had put the HD studs in the crankcase for the crank. I didn't goop up the bearing saddles properly (I think) and they would drip off the studs/nuts, a few of them anyway. I've read others here too had that problem.  So at the guidance of here, I removed each nut, gooped it, installed a copper washer and re torqued the nut. I was able to get the wrench on all of them since the pipe was off. Washers were SAE, so I drilled them to fit not too snugly.

Just got word the chrome ships today. Yay!   :D

Got a 30 year anniversary this weekend, gone for 2 nights.  Hope to put in some overtime, once I' m back.  Kinda like the old "thrashing" we used to do before a race, and so many of you still do. My "race" being the Rocker's Reunion Show 5/30/15.

Sent a loaner gauge to edwardmorris so he could start up, mind at ease. It needed a fitting to get it away from the nut adapter. Chased around 4 auto stores before I found it.

Thought you'd want to know this if you have time Thursday night..

Thanks! I've been at 2 Dreyer Bike nights last year, hope to hit several more, but not this one.

Been in the warehouse a few months ago. We were there to balance Phaedrus front wheel. Personal tour.  Lots of choice Jap iron, dusty and unused but often unique and complete.

I must not be on the VJMC list, gotta fix that. I get emails from Ellis, but not this one. Hmmm.

Thanks again Dave.

Man, Ron: that is becoming more of a work of art every time I see it! Wow!

That K2 manual: that might be one of the rarest Honda books around? :)

VintageCB750 makes repro manuals for some of the bikes.. I noticed that they have a K2 manual. They (vintageCB750) says it comes with wiring diagrams..

EDIT: http://www.vintagecb750.com/search/?q=manual Here's the link to the manual. $38

No need to buy a reproduction, Justin.  The originals are rare, but you can download a scanned copy (here), print it and place it in a 3-ring binder for reference.
