Oh yeah, from a good looks dept, the Marshall 2 tone megaphone flared out so far on the right it prompted Terry from Oz to suggest using if as the sidestand. UUgly.

Oh wow, I do remember that pipe Ron, it was about as ugly as a pipe could get. A Hindle would be my choice, closely followed by a Delkevic. I remember the owner of Dynobike here in Melbourne telling me he got an extra 20BHP from a Suzuki 1200 Bandit just by installing a Hindle and a K&N filter. ;D
Yeah, one of those may be in my future. I can do a fair amount of carb mods, jets, needles, etc. then Dyno it again using the 4-2, expecting improvements. If so I'll, I'll look into the Hindle or Delkevic. Dyno Runs cost about $150 and can be done while I wait. So, I can guinea pig a lot of scenarios. Since I can't ride anymore, my motorcycle activity budget is flush.  :)

When I installed my CR31's, which also do NOT have sync ports, I installed brass "fittings" (for lack of a proper term) into the intake boots. Problem solved. If I were at home I'd post a picture. Be back home in December.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

When I installed my CR31's, which also do NOT have sync ports, I installed brass "fittings" (for lack of a proper term) into the intake boots. Problem solved. If I were at home I'd post a picture. Be back home in December.

I've seen that done, wouldn't be a problem if it will help. But I don't think you can take the caps off to get to the adjusting hardware, locknut, of the VM29s, and still have the engine running. We'll find out soon as I will tinkering with carbs etc, this week I hope.

How expensive are those lifts with accessories needed to be able to work safely and which model of lift did you guys buy? Looked on the website but couldn't figure out which was best and was it something like $1500 retail?   Did you buy direct or from an online seller?  Thank?  Does it take much volume of air to run, I only have a small pancake compressor with 3 gallon tank...

 A very nice lift. I really like the automatic safety catch and the drop plate at the rear. Those air bellows look like a very good idea as well....less complexity with no reduction in reliability.

I totally agree.....my Model 1000 is still strong after close to 25 years. They are beasts. ;D

Many new features. As you mentioned. Plus 6 more inches lift (size matters) More discussion on reply to other posts. Can't wait to use it. Its getting real hard for me to get up and down.

Yes, model 1000 was the main offering. The new one we bot is the SAM 1200. 200 extra lbs plus other features.

The 40200 SAM 1200 Air lift is $1060 from Mile-X Equipment. (www.mile-x.com) If you buy direct from Handy its $1376. Buying direct is not the deal.

We bot the Cycle Vise $165, I bot a Handy Dolly which sticks under the end of the lift and raises it so you can roll it around the shop on the wheels. I got the "Deluxe Pole" for $109.

Shipping was $170.49 from Coldwater OH to Indianapolis IN Fed Ex depot. Joe rented a UHaul trailer for about $35 I think and picked them up. He brought mine to me and since I am incapable of effort, he unloaded it in my shop. Backed the trailer right in, impressive. He stripped the box of extra parts, we put some PVC pipe under it and rolled it out on the floor.

I've got a pretty big tank on my compressor, but I'll bet yours will work.

Hey All...Ron and I were looking into adjusting the needles on his VM29 Smoothbores.  Does anyone have some guidance on removing/adjusting the needle positions?  The internets are not being forthcoming with this process...

I adjusted VM29 needles with carbs on bike.
Tank off, all top covers off, remove the throttle shaft after you have removed all bolts holding it like throttles and the throttle mechanism in the middle. Remove the rubber plugs on both sides.  I ususally moved it out to right. Pushed it out with a screwdriver allen tool with rounded top from left. Grease it a little if it will not slide the the glide bearings. Thin oil spray.

I have replaced all x-screws holding top cover and float bowls with allen head screws so they were easy to remove when carbs sitting on bike.

I did all needles within one hour. I think I managed within 30 minutes too.

I removed float bowls at least 15-20 times without replacing the fiber gaskets.

CB750 stock carbs sucks when it comes to needle adjustments. Carbs off and away from rack.

My TMR is easier to adjust needles, max 30 minutes with tank back on. Throttles not to be removed. I have done it on 20 minutes. I usually double check the needle setting to avoid forgotten needle or clip in wrong notch.

Thanks...This aligns with the little bit of info I found over on some KZ forums.  Bummer...Carbs are already off the bike...so there's that.  Maybe someone will chime in with some Magic Suggestion.  Was really hoping the slides didn't need fully pulled to do the job. Oh Well  ::)

PeWe...you are right...on my RS34's the needle change is extremely easy.

Rats! But its like everything else. Once we put our collective minds to it, we'll persevere and push on.

But we're having fun!. The lift is a great and timely addition. I can't get off the floor anymore. I need some shop stools too. Wife and I bought a Honda Odyssey Conversion with a side ramp. Found a 2017 with 12400 miles on it. Practically new. WE need to get a wheelchair suitable for the rig. That should come this week. I'll have a rear trailer hitch on it. That wasn't in the planned budget and they are pricey.

We got the carbs apart. I should say, Joe got them apart. Pulled the rod (forget the name) that hooks them all to the bell crank. Pulled the needles, which were all set on the middle notch of five. Lowered them 1 notch each, to get a little more lean in the middle. Raised the main jet 1 size from 125 to to 127.50, to richen the top end. Next is put it together and back to the Dyno. I want to wire in a pigtail to the ignition so its not so hard to plug it into the the Dyno.

My long term goal now is to get the hp up and get it ready for the VJMC National Show at Spring Mill State Park next year in Mitchell IN in June or July. I may have to scab together a better exhaust. I've got a 4-1 Kerker header but no muffler. I know there are muffler places to shop. So it will be fun.

Pictures and more updates soon.  Got a snarky oil leak hope to get fixed too. Can't tell if its at the crankcase split, the alternator cover or to bearing stand pucks. All are fixable, the lift really helps.
