just got my first CB750
« on: June 16, 2008, 05:04:37 PM »
i live in oakland ca and work for BART (heavy rail public transit). i've been riding since i was a kid and currently ride an XR650R dualsport. been thinking about restoring a CB for a number of years and finally all of the stars aligned last night and i got a 1975 CB750 last night for pretty cheap off of craigslist. looks to me like i have a very good clean base to work off of. the bike is missing the carbs and headers but is otherwise complete. when i get some pictures i'll post them.

Welcome :)

The CB750 is a great bike and will put a smile on your face for sure.  If you haven't already done so, pop over to the FAQ section and get yourself a workshop manual and parts list.  Looking forward to your pics.

cheers

Looks like the start of something good.....pictures we love pictures. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Welcome to the madhouse.
Looks like you have a good base for a nice bike, what direction were you thinking of heading with it, cafe, resto, bobber or just a rider?

i'm going to make it a cafe racer. nothing to wild just try to get the engine running solid, maybe powdercoat the frame and paint the tank. i'm waiting on the carbs i bought off of ebay last night. they are off of a F bike and i'm hoping it's true that they'll fit right on to this K bike. got a set of 4 into 1 headers for $10 that need to be cleaned up. i'm getting rid of the points and going with an electronic ignition.

Nice project!  Welcome, from another newbie!

I just bought a 78 F model project bike as well.  I think it will be fun if I ever get past the carbs. I am rebuilding the carbs now and, so far, I hate the damn things.  Turns out that  the carbs on this thing are the red headed step child of all CB750 Carbs.  Parts availability is sketchy and everything costs twice what is should if you can find it at all.
They don't have replaceable pilot jets, the fuel valve seat is not replaceable,  and they do have an accelerator pump.  I hope you bought carbs from and earlier year model, I think they were a lot easier to deal with because they are more like any other motorcycle carb and parts are everywhere for them.

Good luck,

Wayne

I agree...really looks like something you can restore to a nice rider.  Wonder why the guy started to part is out?  The motor is not seized is it?
